Hi everyone. I am feeling very sick right now as I write this and I could do with some help if possible.

I registered with a new doctors surgery last week and handed in my urine sample. The nurse said the sugar level was high and because

1)I am pretty overweight
2)my mother and Brother had Diabetes

she has asked me to do a fasting test tomorrow morning. To cut a long story short I am scared. It was her attitude more than anything that upset me. She obviously disliked me on sight because of my weight and actually seemed disappointed I didnt have high blood pressure too!
She also claimed there was no such thing as "pre Diabetes" which made me suspicious.

I have none of the typical Diabetes symptoms but am prepared to believe I have it and will consider this as a wake up call even if I don't have it.

I suppose I would like to know whether one fasting test could possibly be inaccurate or whether I will need more tests.

I'm sorry to introduce myself to the forums this way but I'm prety shaken by the whole experience so far.

Hi there Mightyboosh !!!
We all understand.... BELIEVE ME !!! This test will let them know how long you've had high blood sugars...
There is this test where you have to pee in a jug for a few weeks or a month and My doctor wanted me to keep it fresh he told me to put it in the frigerator...
Yuk,,,, the thought grossed me out so I didn't do the test... Since joining DF - Now, I'm thinking of doing the test in the summer.
{ Buy myself a little frigerator to keep my precious pee } YUK !!!

I wish I could remember the name of the test...
Well good luck... Enjoy your stay at Diabetes Forum...

P.S. Start by cutting down on the Pop, Soda, Drinks, and drink more water.
P.S.S. I'm giving that NURSE an imgainary karate chop....
