For the past 2 years or so i have not been low because i was insulin resistant....I recently got on Metformin 500mg in addition to lantus and novolog to control my diabetes...and i lately have been very low...i mean like 40 or 50 low.....
So i am wonder now...i havent felt a low in a long time...and now that my sugars are dropping again, i get very *****y and down right mean sometimes when im dropping. My mom knows that i need sugar but everyone else thinks i have an attitude lol
Does anyone else have mood swings when low? once i get sugar i get back to normal...but i seem to get easily pissed when i am low and i was wondering if i was the only one?

Mood swings are quite common when low. And usually something the person having them doesn't even realize.
Why are you on metformin and insulin? I know the two are allowed in some cases, but it seems if you are having lows that maybe you don't need both.

You can see the mood swings in my posts, try living with me? HaHa. Usually it takes some else to point it out.

and kev...i am on metformin also cause i am insulin resistant...before this my average bgs were 250....and my last A1c was almost 10 so it was bad...
the metformin has been working wonders to control my bgs...i am just learning now to cut down my insulin...cause im used to taking sooo much!

Tricia,
I can't imagine being anywhere near 40 or 50 and not being emotionally off-base. The only thing I'd be worried about is getting back to normal. Anyone standing between me and that would probably not get a warm-fuzzy feeling from me at that moment.

Trust me, you're not the only one.
The only problem is now, whenever I"m grumpy and *****y just because I want to be, people assume I'm low. ;)

My wife knows all the signs:
High: I'm ready to rip people's throats out for no special reason
Low: I become hyper and can't communicate, can't talk in complete sentences
Ah, the Joys of Diabetes.

I used to think I got crabby when I was low until I had the transplant and still got crabby before meals. Turns out I'm just a ***** when I'm hungry. lol but yeah, bs swings definately made me MORE crabby.

really? well i don't think that is my case because i USED to be crazy hungry all the time and wasn't cranky lol now i just start getting *****y with everyone but i'm not used to it so i wanted to make sure i wasnt the only one who did this while low.
When I'm sleep and having a low, I dream crazy dreams. There is one in particular I keep having. It has to do with me parking my car and being unable to find it later on. This dream keeps recurring and it's is so puzzling how this can happen. I will awaken and have this "blue funk" feeling and I try to figure out why I'm feeling like I do, and then realize I just had that crazy dream! I test and I'm like at 50 0r 60. The other day I was 45. I eat something to raise that blood glucose level and I feel fine. Crazy...huh?

I don't get hyper, and i've noticed after 24 years, I can't "feel" a hypo in quite the same way. But one big clue for me is if my brain starts into ADD mode.... I have 10 differnet thoughts every 10 seconds and can't focus on anything.... then i know i'm low.
The outward signs are the sweats, inchoherent speaking, and the fact i'll be a super diva *****. ;)

I get more grouchy when I'm high... :argh:... you really don't want to cross my path.
Lows are such an easy fix, that my mood, even if bad, wouldn't stay bad too long. My moods when high are a different story .

I get tunnel vision and MUST find a place to sit and eat. Anyone I know that talks to me during the low will get crankosaurus rex. It really depends on what they say to me to start off, but it gets really bad when an argument starts. I'm still able to maintain focus during the low, so everything I say makes sense in some way, but it isn't exactly covered in sugary sweet-nothings. I have a knack for saying something that'll really get you in the mood for argument.
None of it helps anything of course; as eventually I'll say "I'm low and that's the reason for all this" but half the time that doesn't work since they're already in the argumentative mood. Siblings in the past have had the most difficult time with it and felt better calling me selfish rather than calling me a diabetic going low. That's what I get when I cast the first stone I suppose.
It has changed recently though, I just mention I'm going low to start off rather than try to reply to what someone just said to me. Still, going low confuses things and it isn't easy to even do that every time.

I tend to get really stubborn and argumentative when I go low, along with feeling irritable..I think my family are starting to think I'm naturally a grumpy person..which I'm not!
Tricia, getting grumpy is one of well know signs of low bs. So don't worry about that. You can get what's called hypo unawareness. This is caused by far too many lows. However if you can keep your bs say from 5mmol (90mgdl)upwards your awareness will return.
Ohhhh Yes I get grumpy...just ask my wife and my co-workers !!
I figure it out when I start getting irritatied I say "Whoooah ... what the heck is wrong with me???" and the I check my blood sugar and find out that it is either high or low.
I also find that when my blood sugar gets too high. and I have to take an extra hit of Regular - I can fly off the handle pretty easily as it is coming down. I can't win. :smokin:

Somtimes I get really goofy and laugh alot, and realise how low I am. Or somtimes its the complete opposite. I might get really ignorant and little things really get me edgy. Yea mood swings come with diabetes for sure, ecspecially when your low!

My eyesight is a pretty good indicator that I'm low. It kinda fades slightly and I need to really focus to see clearly.

Mine used to do that too. It was often my first clue I was low. But now, I seem to not have this anymore? I find it bizarre......

What is it about the metamorfin that causes these mood swings? Is it something in the medicine itself or the fact it makes your blood sugars drop more in which case you feel weak because you feel like you can eat anything now?

I stopped taking my metformin as I was having 2 or 3 hypos per day.Since coming off them they have improved.

i get really impatient and frustrated when low, when i'm at work there is a patient on the ward that gets to me, and i can usually tell my blood sugar by how tolerant i am of her, as soon a si feel like i wnat to snap at her and walk away its normally time to test my blood sugar.

I get quite angry, when i was about 15 i felt low and went to my friends house
to get sugar. My older brother was with me and started to ask if i was ok,i just picked him up and threw him about 6ft into a tree.He wasn't hurt and we laughed about it afterwards.Does anyone else start to feel slitely worse when pestered by people who don't know what its like?
