Has anybody else felt an exteme pleasure of relaxation and tiredness several minuites after giving yourself a large dose of insulin? I've allways thought that the insulin I take had some sort of side affect. This has been an on going thing in my life whenever I need to give myself a larger dose than normal.

Hi Royce...
Nope! Never noticed that! Is it possible it's a subconcious thing, that you've known you needed a large dose and once it's done you can relax??
Mind you... it does sound awfully nice...

I've felt relaxation and thankfulness. Just think, it wasn't many years ago that insulin wasn't around and diabetics just died. I love living in this day and age even if I get grumpy once in awhile because my control isn't always there. LIFE IS GOOD!!

Are you sure it's insulin you're injecting? :D

I can see how you can get this feeling. When insulin levels in the body are low your body assumes that your blood sugar is low so it releases hormones to raise it. (Of course you are an insulin diabetic so your BG’s may be sky high, but your body doesn’t know that, it just responds to insulin levels.) These hormones, most notably glucagon and cortisol, and there may be others involved, put stress on your body (cause nervousness, anxiety, etc.) that you may be particularly sensitive to. After you inject the insulin and it starts working, the release of these stress hormones is curtailed. This along with the psychological aspect others have mentioned could bring on this feeling of euphoria that you experience, imo.

Yea mark that sounds like your right on the button. Usually this happens when my levels are around 8.0 to 11.0 mmol. I wouldn'd dought it has something to do with hormones. :shot:

Maybe that's why I fell asleep once after shooting a huge breakfast dose without eating :(:nurse:
