WOW!
We had a chinese take away tonight and im NOT high!!:dontknow:
Reading before was 4.7
Took 7u NovoRapid
Ate - Sweet 'n' Sour chicken (hong kong style), sweet 'n' sour chicken (balls), Egg fried rice, Chicken Chow Main, Shredded Chilli Beef and prawn crackers.
Reading 1 hour later was 6.0
Reading 1 hour later was 6.9
Reading 25 mins later was 6.5
Reading now (1.5 hrs later) is 5.1
I didn't go out of range once!
COOL! :D
I'm wondering about the 'chinese effect' myself.. some days I get away with it (with an extra dose of NR about an hour & a half after eating) and some days I don't.
Some days, like you just did, I can get away with it super easy without a care... I *think* there are two reasons: 1) the right amount of insulin - which is always hard to guess for takeaways. and 2) starting low. Maybe it's just coincidence but any time I've had chinese and started under 5 it's gone well. If I start higher, it's trickier.
Y'know what... I give up lol. I spent too much time trying to figure out how I can eat this & balance that & find a plan for that... I think the key is: Diabetes is NOT predictable! The same food wont do the same thing twice. BAH!

Stu,
I can usually cover the initial rise on my bgs eating Chinese, it is the 4-5 hours later that do me in.
How did you do way later?

I forgot to mention i had a Pizza Hut Buffet yesterday too, all you can eat, and i ate all i could, Can't remember how many units i took, but i was all in range before and after that too!!
Think i may have hit my optimum dose of Lantus now that i can split 7u/7u?!

Awesome Stu! It's funny how something like that can make us so happy! I think that the last time I had chinese I gave myself 10 units for a medium sized plate and it worked too! I was sooo happy too!:dancing:

Congratulations! I personally think it's worth the effort to keep trying to make all these hard foods work...I don't eat those things too often, but I'm not giving them up...I'll just keep on being thrilled when it works out right, and shoot more humalog when in doesn't!

hi, i am a chinese, so normally i eat chinese, but you have to be careful.
It is not every chinese style food you can eat.
Especially pay attention to those Egg fried rice and chow mian.
It has a lot of oil and it will keep the blood sugar slowly to increase.
That's why you won't get spike during the first two hours, but after 3 or 4 hours, you might get the peak result.
So the most diabetic friendly food in chinese style i figured out is Toufu.
With Toufu, you can eat as much as you wish, never cause increase of blood sugar.
Otherthings like chinese vegetable or soup, are all good.
But try to avoid rice, noodles etc.
good luck!
