I know I've probably asked this before, but I don't remember the answer and I need to know what to do. My family gets together Christmas eve and has a graze fest. I'm going to basically treat it like dinner and handle the bolus that way. But, if I decided to eat more, say an hour or two later, can I inject more humalog JUST to cover the additional food (no correction) and be safe?
Help me out here, guys...I know good and well that I will eat more than once!

Yes, you can. That's what stacking is. :)

I've done exactly that at dinner parties where we eat in courses, and it works just fine.

I take a BG reading prior to the start of the dinner, and either bolus then for a small amount or wait 30 minutes for the second serving depending on what I am eating. Later on I will have a second bolus to cover the main dish and dessert. Grazing at a party is similar. If you are using a pen, you can just re-cap the tip and put it in the pouch for re-use in an hour.

This is where being a pumper will be a lot easier for me when I start in a month or so.

Good luck, just test and you'll be fine ! Merry Christmas and be safe ! :eating:

Yes....

For some reason in pump training and advanced MDI they always mess people up with insulin on board and the meaning behind it. If you are making NO corrections and giving insulin for CARBS only, then you give the insulin to carb ratio and you are safe. Only if you do a fingerstick and are high/low and need to correct as well do you need to worry.

Thanks...that's what I thought, I just haven't been in a situation where I would try it out yet, and I would rather not invoke any lows Christmas eve if I can avoid it. I've been so busy this week I've already had enough lows to last me until next year!
