hi everyone!!!!

Im not diagnosed yet im just suspecting i might have it cause my mouth is dry all the time and i have to go to the bathroom every half an hour!

So my questions are can a simple urine test detect diabetes or do is a blood test more accurate?

Also just curious...how many times do you have to go?

:dontknow:

There's numerous tests...but not all are required....

C Peptide - C-peptide testing can be done when diabetes has been newly diagnosed and it is not clear whether type 1 diabetes or type 2 diabetes is present. A person whose pancreas is unable to produce any insulin (type 1 diabetes) usually has a decreased level of insulin and C-peptide. A person with type 2 diabetes has a normal or increased level of C-peptide

GAD Anti-Body - Can help to detect type 2.

Hemoglobin A1C - Average of BG levels over the last 90 days. Can help to determine if one is having alot of highs and therefore this is the main factor to determine a lead towards diabetes.

Fasting BG - This will determine what the body's BG is with no food. Generally done in the morning after sleeping it can help figure out if the person isn't producing or using enough insulin. Another sign of diabetes if the level is above normal.

Glucose Tolerance Test - This determines how sugar affects you. The higher one goes during this test, the more likely they are to have diabetes. However, this is really not a test that can determine diabetes fully or not.

The most common test is the A1C. Then depending on what that shows is how they determine what tests to do from there.

As the ADA website states diabetes is diagnosed after 2 fasting BG above normal in a person with no symptoms and just one abnormal BG in a symptomatic one. As far as I know the HbA1c has not yet been approved for diagnostic purposes because of standardization issues, but is an excellent tool for determining the level of BG control in diabetes.

I think urine tests can determine if there is sugar in your urine, but I don't think it is used to dx a person with Diabetes. I would strongly suggest seeing your doctor as soon as you can if this is something you are concerned about.

It's better to know and deal with it than to let the disease progress and potentially put yourself in danger.

Keep us posted.

I diagnosed myself, you can too. Buy a $20 blood glucose meter. Make sure it comes with test strips. Test yourself 2 hrs after you have eaten a typical meal. Follow the instructions closely. If you are over 200 get yourself to the doctor.

If you're thirsty all the time, and peeing every half hour, get to a doctor.

The urine test will do it if it's bad enough. The blood test isn't really more accurate, it will just give you a more recent answer; urine test will tell you what you were sometime between now and two hours ago and blood test will tell you what you are now.
When I was diagnosed I had a fasting blood sugar of 425 :shot: ; no matter what time I was tested I'd have been high. But if you're borderline, then sometimes your bloodsugars will be out of range and sometimes they won't.
