I just started my animas pump, and have noticed that some boluses sting. is there any insulin that isnt humalog and novolog (ones i already tried) that stings significantly less than the others?

It's not really the insulin that stings. It's the force and it hitting a nerve that stings. There is only one other insulin for a pump, Apidra, and it will have the exact same stinging sensation you have. It's just something you'll have ot live with. I've learned to.

Some say novolog stings less than humalog, but like Jedi said, it's the force that stings. Changing to slow bolus speed with help.

Are all pumps equal as far as stinging or is this particular to the speed of the Animas bolus?

Animas for the most part, but varies if people have the problem or not.

Actually, I thought the stinging was caused by the low (acidic) pH of the medication. Some people are really sensitive to that, and it stings until the pH is moved up to a normal body pH (7.6).
You can look at the package inserts of Apidra, Novolog, and Humalog, to determine which one has a pH closer to 7.6. I'm sure they're all around the same.
If you took a basal insulin, Levemir is actually close to normal body pH. I get no sting when injecting it, unlike Lantus, which hurts like the dickens. Lantus was more forgiving if I forgot one of my two daily basal shots; Levemir, on the other hand, really wears off after 12 hours in me!
(Hmmm, getting off topic, aren't I?) Can't sleep... must...try....to...sleep. (See the Chit-Chat forum if you're curious as to why I can't.)
