Went in for my lab work this morning as my endo appt is next week. Really hoping the hit the 5's this time...

The doc ordered a 24 hour urine collection, so they gave me a big bottle to take home a few days ago. I started at midnight and the next day at 3 pm, I knew I was going to need another bottle. I ended up filling nearly 1 1/2 bottles and was a little concerned.

I asked the lady at the test lab this morning and she said that it was a good indicator that my kidneys are working well. I told her my bg is under control and she said that was even a better indication. :hmmmm:

Don't you just love ignernt statements?

I'd need more than two bottles. Hey Cyborg, next time you need to do a collection, try and hold it as LONG as you can. I mean, wait until you are going to burst. It's always interesting to know the volume you can hold.

Ok, I got a little satisfaction when this happened to me: Years ago I had to have major surgery which required a catheter. When they removed it several days later, apparently my bladder muscles seized and I was unable to urinate. The docs and nurses made me wait.........and wait...........and wait -- telling me to keep on trying. Finally they had to reinsert the catheter, and the container they had to catch it all was WAY too small! The thing overflowed all over the nurse!!! It was all I could do to not say "HA!" Wish I had peed on the doctors, too!

I've had to do those 24 hour collections as well. Unfortunately at the time, I wasn't able to fill a whole bottle because I had a kidney stone blocking something. I was pregnant at the time, so that totally freaked them out! LOL

Here's hoping that you're in the 5s now! :D

I try to drink as little as possible so I won't have to deal with 'catching' it that often. I honestly HATE doing the 24 hr urines, although I do understand the value. How much do you think it skews the results to drink as little liquid as possible during that time and/or to drink as much as possible during that time??
Last time I did it I was at NIH in DC for a research study and it was required, so I had to plan my 'touristing' around my peeing and I was a 20 min train ride from my hotel - not cool :T
