Is there any vitamin or herbs that helps with type1?Guess main thing wanting something to help with insulin resistance?Cant seem talk the doctor into symilin,I use a pump.Basal rate at 1.85 hr,bolus is 1unit for every 5 carbs.IF my sugar does get high takes forever to get it down.Usually 6-7 hours.Im active. Thanks for any advice.Happy NEw year!!!!!!!
If it takes 7 hours for you to come down from a high then your numbers are off
Work with your Dr to adjust your correction factor
If things are as they should be you should in MOST cases see progress 2 hours after correction bolus

I don't believe any human being has a flat lined basal rate: one basal rate for 24hrs. I can see having one ic rate, but I think it's rare. I use 24 basal rates and have 4 ic rates.
Make it your mission to find realistic rates that reflect your body and lifestyle.

I was diagnosed with T2 diabetes 4 months ago. I believe there are many natural compounds that help with diabetes. I have been very successful at bringing my BG levels down. I have combined diet, exercise, medication (metformin), vitamins, supplements. I can't tell you exactly what has worked for me, but a combination of all the above has worked well. I realize you are T1, but you have the same problem most T2s have, insulin resistance. Here are some of the things I have used:
cinnamon - I use regular baking cinnamon. You can buy capsules but they are expensive. I mix it in milk (bark doesn't dissolve), about one quarter to one half tsp, twice a day. Supposed to help with insulin sensitivity.
chromium picolinate - supposed to help with insulin sensitivity and with insulin production.
metformin (prescription) - helps with insulin sensitivity, helps keep the liver from dumping, helps prevent some glucose absorption from the intestines. Many T1s take this, not just T2s.
grapefruit or grapefruit juice - use with caution. It is supposed to help with keeping the spikes in BG down but should not be taken with certain medications like statins. Do research on side-effects with medication.
guava or guava juice - I have not used this, but it is supposed to help like grapefruit juice. I haven't used it because I can't find it without added sugar, though I haven't tried very hard. I do not know if the same cautions apply as with grapefruit.
vitamin B complex sublingual - don't think this helps BG levels, but since I started taking it my energy levels have gone way up. Supposedly the metformin will make you need more B12, but it might be worth a shot.
fish oil - the omega 3 oils are supposed to help with cholesterol, lower the bad, raise the good. Doesn't seem to help with insulin sensitivity but is otherwise helpful.
Here is a link to a LONG article that talks about all sorts of stuff that may help with diabetes and insulin resistance. Chances are something in my post or this article will help you. You will have to experiment around a bit and see. Use caution and do research before trying anything you are unfamiliar with.

Do searches on acupuncture and diabetes for more information. Also do searches on grapefruit and diabetes, guava and diabetes, etc.
I have also found that a quick way to bring my BG levels down is a brisk mile walk around the block or neighborhood. I have seen my BG drop 36 points in 15-20 minutes by walking briskly.
Hope this helps and gives you places to begin looking.
