Hi,

My name is Tom. When people see my Screen name they probably think I have type 2 because of "T2" but i'm Tom the 2nd with my dad being the first. ha, just wanted to get that out of the way, I noticed that problem after I registered. Well I was recently diagnosed with type 1 in December 2006. I still can't believe that I have this. I'm a college student and I started to get symptoms at the end of the semester so the symptoms I was hoping were just from stress of finals and big projects due. However I pretty much diagnosed myself after reading about diabetes on WEBMD.

I've been trying to do as much research as I can online and stumbled upon this website and enjoyed reading some of the posts and I assume I need all the help I can get. As I said i'm in college and I have one semester left before I graduate. I was just planning on having a good time my last semester but this disease I'm afraid is going to put an end to the "party" people call college. However I keep telling myself that people have a lot worse diseases then I do so there is no way I can feel sorry for myself.

Well Just wanted to introduce myself and say hello. Look forward to being a member on this site.

Hey there, and welcome aboard!!

I'm a 22 yo T1 as well... it's not an issue as far as socialising goes. I still go out, have a few (or more) drinks, all that stuff. It just means you have to watch what you mix with, test more often, all that sort of thing. No biggie, I promise!!

What insulin have they put you on??

Any questions, ask away, we're here to help :D

Kit.

Hi Kit my name is Tom. thanks for the reply... I was shocked that someone replied so quickly.. haha i was very impressed and pleasantly surprised.

Right now they have me taking Lantus and Humalog. It's only been a couple of weeks since I got out of the hospital. I was there for 2 days because apparently i was DKA. I found out today that I may be in the "honeymoon" period so I actually haven't been taking much of the humalog.

Ya New Years Eve wasn't what I was used to... I nursed like a single beer... but I'm assuming once i get more comfortable I can drink more. I love drinking beer so I really need to get used to it quick haha. But it was nice not waking up to a hangover!

Welcome Tom.

It's probably not a good idea to go on benders at this stage of the game. I have done it too many times, and I won't say you can't, later. My only word of advice: don't try to control BGs tightly while drinking. Let it run a bit high.

My other advice is stick around here and really learn how to control things. Other D's really are the best source of info., and we don't **** all over you for your supposed transgressions. We're more likely to give you a high five!

HI & Welcome Tom. We're happy you stumbled upon us. Nice people and a ton of information to be found here.

I'm not much of a beer drinker, but on occasion I'll have a Bud Select. Low in carbs and it doesn't raise my BS that much. Good Luck!

Hi Tom!! Welcome to DF! You wont go far wrong by joining in here. If you need to ask anything, then ask ANYTHING, no point in being shy about it here!

Imnewly diagnosed myself (July 06) and my first two A1c's were 7.2 and the latest at 6.0! I owe a lot of my control from what i've learnt on these forums and asking lots of questions!
