I had hoped it would be a little lower but oh well :) That's pretty good seeing how I had it checked right after the holidays.
The doc did extensive blood work on me and my cholesterol was good, Im so happy :)

6.4, in October. I'll have to have blood drawn for another one in about 2 weeks, so my CDE will have the results when I see her at the end of this month. I'd love it to be closer to 6.0 but I don't know if that's going to happen this time.

My last one was 7.8 (November), down from 8.7, down from 13.9...
Hopefully the next one will be better still!
Thanks all so much :) you make me feel as though I'm making strides. My last hb1ac was like 7.5 i think :)

My last was 5.0. No kidding. I'm a Symlin user and rarely eat over 45 grams of carbs at a time. This is down from 14.7 one year ago (at diagnosis). I'm a celery-eating hombre! Bring on the radishes!

6.7, which I don't think is too bad for someone who's an alcoholic and doesn't watch what they eat....****, I don't even carb count.
Aiming form below 6.5 for the next, despite the protests of my care team.

6.0 was my last... my first was 7.2 on mixtard... what a difference basal and bolus made!
Hey, good result Linn. Once you are under the 7 mark you can pat yourself on the back. Keep it going now. I'm fearing what mine will be after Christmas and the New Year. Had very high readings over that whole period. Yikes!!!!

6.4 last Nov. Battled a bad wisedom tooth for two months, and had a cold for two weeks in the month prior to labs. Along with two field trips accross two time zones each time disrupting my schedule. Makes no difference to the doctor, "You must not be watching what you eat." he said to me. He is one that does not believe stress affects bg's.

Well exercise really helps, running has helped me to keep BS low,to eat very well, reduce insulin and to loose weight. My result yesterday was 5%.
I have had some very low lows which I'm sure that that my doctor will pick up on but I seem to function fine when my BS is at 60-70 ! As an experiment at Christmas I played one of those electronica reaction games with a BS of 59 and did far better than when my BS was higher!

The HBA1c was 6.3% in October. I have been trying to get it back into the 5's, where it belongs, for some time. I recently started an exercise program, and my insulin sensitivity has improved a lot. So maybe next time.

Can't work out if all these good figures from everyone are depressing or inspiring. I think I'll plump for inspiring :)
My last HBA1c was so bad that my Dr didn't want to dwell on it, or indeed reveal it. It was over 14 was the best I got. :s:
But since then I have sorted myself out, moved onto insulin and really started to accept things and take care of myself. Got a new one at the end of this month. Fingers crossed.

My last one was 6.7 - which I was satisfied with... My next one, well, I'm not so sure it's going to be that good. Being that I'm w/o iinsurance right now, I haven't seen an Endo in a while, and I've had some rolller coaster readings :s:. When I do go for my appt, I will post my results... no matter what the result (but hopefully not too terrible  ) - I think that will keep me honest  .

Good for you! Those're crazy good numbers! I want to start weight-lifting again - for strength and toning - not big muscles! In 8 months, my son will turn 13 and then he'll be old enough to go to the gym with me - I'm really looking forward to that! How many carbs to you eat in a day?

Are you on pumps and if so do you attribute that the you lower results. We have a 6 year old diagnosed a year ago. Only one a1c so far (do for another sson)...it was under 7. Still, even after a year my wife worries about the possible complications down the road. From what I have read and been told though, the chances of those complications are greatly demished if the a1cs stay under 7. Also, it seams the technology for keeping it under 7 is better today than ever before. Am I right?
I just got my lowest ever today, 5.8! :marchmell

Hi there! Yesterday was my one year anniversary on the pump and I LOVE it for much tighter control, easy corrections of highs, and one needle every three days instead of 6 a day - awesome! I thank my hubby for getting me on a pump so quickly. (roughly 6 months after diagnosis) I have three kids myself and if one turns diabetic, I would get them a pump ASAP! Before I was on the pump, my A1C's were all still under 7. I feel safer and more in control with the pump.

My last one was 5.2. I don't get why there are so many people with such high A1c's who have been on insulin for quite a while! This is in no way meant to cast a slur on the ones with higher A1c's...... I just want to know if it's a liver-gone-amok thing or a don't-test-often-enough thing or an I'm-too-busy-with-life thing. I've had this disease for 20 years, and when I look back on the ignorance and complacence which was part of my life for so long, I feel such a sense of waste. I had retinal bleeding and frozen shoulder when my A1c's were in the 6's (granted, I was a smoker at the time, which would certainly contribute to the retinopathy). I brought my A1c's down to the low 5's, though, with steadier blood sugars than I had in the 6's, and I have no more frozen shoulder, and retinas that look non-diabetic...... I'm in my mid 40's and I lost all my floaters, and they are supposed to be par for the course at my age! I'm not on a pump, but I do test 15x a day (roughly), and I use 3 and sometimes 4 different insulins to fit my digestion/basal metabolism. I just wish more people could spend a chunk of time upfront developing and honing (timewise) a good habit that will pay off in the long run. We're all different, though, and I know it's impossible for some, if not many, to achieve normal A1c's without the risk of severe hypos. I normally read the ADA Type 1 forum, and so many who post there have excellent A1c's or else learn to achieve them eventually, so it was something of a shock to come to this board today (my first day) and see such different results.

I'd guess most people come here to get a lower A1C in the first place.

For someone who has been T1 for 20 years, an HBA1c of 5.2% is quite outstanding. Keep up the good work. But you are an excpetion to the rule. Which is that managing blood glucose with injected insulin is diffucult to, say the least. And for most T1 diabetics, their HBA1c is higher than they would like it to be, in spite of their best efforts.
Perhaps the best answer to your question is that, with T1s, HBA1c's are higher than normal because the process of managing them is extremely complex. And this management system we have is very crude. Using insulin to manage blood glucose is a bit like trying to tune a racing car engine when the only tool you have is a sledgehammer. It works well for some people. But for most, it is a challenge. I guess it all depends on the design of the engine.
There are other techniques that help, like diet and exercise. But it is really not surprising that the results achieved are not always optimal. And what you see on this forum is a group of people working together to make the most of a difficult situation.
