Hi everyone! I am a 29 year old female living in Montreal...the city of sin! We have the best of everything...including FOOD. I was diagnosed type 2 diabetes in June 2006 and I am finding it extremely difficult. I have lost 30lbs up until now and according to my specialist still have another 25 or so to go. I don't know any other diabetics and finding it really overwhelming dealing with it on my own. I am looking for some friends who understand what its like to have an awful day at work and not be able to console yourself with chocolate. I am also looking for some advice and words of wisdom.

Well..... here is my words of wisdom for what it is worth. Your not alone!!! You have us. Congratulations on your weight loss, your doing awsome.....and Welcome to the forums. Lots of great people and good information here.

Chocolate is ok in small doses. Use a piece of dark chocolate as a reward for a week of good eating.

Bienvenue Babe from my favorite city!

Your definately not alone. I can almost guarantee you know other diabetics, you just don't know they are.

This is definately a great place. It's helped many of us in our times of need. I know what you mean about the food, but you've done a fantastic job so far! Keep it up.

Welcome to this wonderful place! :)

Like Notme said : You're not alone!!! :hello:

Indeed it's overwhelming at the beginning. It seems to me you've done a lot for yourself since June. Losing weight is not an easy task. You're taking good care of yourself and of your health. Your health is your wealth! Take one day at a time. Diabetes has been part of my life for nearly a decade (actually I think it has been a decade already - I lost track) and this forum is where I mostly get understanding and precious feedback. But I can't really blame the people who don't have diabetes for not being able to understand what we go through on a daily basis.

I used to hang out at La Brulerie on St-Denis... and drink way too many coffees too :coffee: - Haven't been there in 9 years or so. Is it still there?

Take good care and... don't despair. Lots of great people here, lots to read from, great advice, tips, and precious feedback.

Hi Diabetic Babe, and welcome to DF.
We all try to help one anither as much as possible here, so please don't hesitate to ask away, have a rant, joke around a bit, whatever.
There are some great people here, and we always love to meet one more.

Kit.

Hey You! You are not alone, believe me there are so many of us around,it'll just take you a "little" while to know it . You know, it's like when you buy a new car, then you start noticing every one is driving a car just like yours. Well, It's kinda like that pretty soon you see all the things about a diabetic, not because it's so noticable but because NOW you recognize it,because you are one, too.Does that make sense? Anyway you WILL love us!
