Today my doctor wanted me to try Actos to help the insulin work better and be less resistant. I've been type 1 for a long time and don't really want to take a type 2 medication. Does anybody who is type 1 take any pills to help the insulin work better ?
I take Metformin, to help me with the insulin resistance I picked up with weight gain since I started insulin. Hopefully it's going to help me lose the weight too... 2.5 kg so far, but no movement for a couple of weeks :(
Did you get a full explanation of why the doc wants you on those pills? Are you using lots of insulin or having odd troubles?

Because I am using so much insulin and have gained 40 lbs since starting the pump 4 years ago. What do u mean no movement, I dont understand what you're saying
Sorry that was badly written. I mean I haven't lost any more weight in the last couple of weeks. Metformin has meant I use a little less insulin, though :)

I was on Actos for a while, until I kept gaining weight on it. So I no longer take it.

I'm a Type 1 pumper also taking 500mg of Metformin twice a day. My endo says studies show it helps keep your weight steady. I've been pumping 13 months and my weight has stayed the same......give or take a pound or two.

Hmm, :hmmmm: maybe I should look into this. Hey, how bad could it be if it helps keep your weight steady and helps improve your overall control- doesn't sound too bad to me! :)
