hey everyone I am new to the forum, my name is Katie and I was recently diagnosed with type 2 not too long ago (like 4-5 months ago) I still have trouble keeping my sugar in check, I was doing great until my doc upped my metformin and that put me in the hospital with horrible stomach issues etc.. I guess this thing is an adventure. I am trying to learn new things everyday like the importance of exercise and weight control (I've got well over 40 pounds too loose!) Anyway I am just saying hi and glad I found somewhere to talk about stuff cuz sometimesI feel like I am the only crazy one dealing with headaches and no exercise motivation etc...but I know I am not....::sigh:: I guess this is lfe.:hmmmm:

Hi Katie: Welcome aboard. I know you'll find lots of great info here.

I, too, am only 4 months into my diagnosis and am also on metformin. I take 500 mg 2 x daily. I've been very fortunate not to have a lot of side effects. I did have headaches, but I assumed it was due to cutting out so much food! I hate that you have had such bad gastric distress. Have you spoke with your doc about perhaps trying metformin XR? I've heard this often alleviates a lot of the gastric problems.

Hang in there...like you, exercise is a challenge for me. I've started taking the steps to my 6th floor office and I ride the stationery bike and use the treadmill at home. I've lost 35 lbs....am currently plateaued or something, as nothing is coming off now...and have WAY more to go.

Again, welcome..you're in good company.

Hi Katie, glad u joined us. Great place here, with lots of fun and plenty of support when needed, and plenty of good advise whether needed or not. It's a fun place so I hope u enjoy.
Most of us have trouble keeping our sugars in check but the harder u try the better the results should be. I see u realise the importance of exercise and good eating, so u are on the right track there. I've known numerous people who didn't want to exercise yet when they started they found they couldn't stop, they loved it so much. I think u may have the adventure streak so give it a go and find out what it's like. It's always easier doing it with other people, so perhaps join a club or gym and you'll get support there also. Best of luck and let us know how u get on.

Hi Katie and welcome :shakehand...

I think I can safely say that we all know how difficult and what a struggle living with Diabetes can be . Sometimes it really, really upsets me to think about it-even though I know that wont change things.

What I can tell you is to stick around... This really is a GREAT :top: place for support :five: and advice... And I know it has helped me to feel less alone... I hope we can help you out in some way too.

See you around :burnout:
