Dx about 2 years ago with t2. I am 6'5 and weigh 195. Never any history in the family so I am the 1st. Been on Metformin 500 X 2 for about 6 months. My a1c has been in the mid 6's but just recently jumped to 7.2. I have been sloppy lately with the holidays etc so I expected it to move north. Right now I use my doctor for the blood work and meds, he is not really a good coach. Should I see an endo and get a plan going?
Thanks,

IMO, every diabetic should see an endo... :1eye:

Ditto what Cyborg said. Every diabetic should see an endo. :)

Like Razorback, i'm T2. I've only seen my Internist, only been diagnosed since end of August. Been wondering if I should see an endocrinologist. Have only seen my internist once since diagnosis (3 months after) and A1C was down to 6.2 from 9.6 but HDL was low at 24.
In your opinion(s), why do you feel the endo is so necessary for T2, esp. if the levels are okay?
Thanks!

I have found out that with a lot of research and keeping a check on the A1c every 3 - 6 months will do fine.
I only see my regular Dr. - I've gone to 2 others - they told me nothing - the nurse knew nothing about diabetis. As long as your numbers are within acceptable limits and you check the A1c every 3 - 6 months you will be fine - do lots of research on the internet.
The first Dr. - his advice - don't eat anymore sweets. (I only wish it were that easy)
The nurse - said my diabetes was out of control - I was at 136 - I ask her what the normal numbers were - she says I don't know - I think 144 - I said how can I be out of control then - she says - just take your medicine like the doctor said.
OMG Sharon that sounds just ridiculous!
I agree that seeing an endo is a good idea. I still think the best education and advice you can possibly get is from other diabetics. Had I not joined a few forums like this one, I don't think I'd be feeling so confident about my own control.
Read all you can, and use your common sense (you will come across conflicting advice as with anything), and most importantly, test test test! Find out how things effect YOU personally. Work on finding out what your body needs.

I get my a1c every 3 months and it helps me know how I am doing. Frankly, I know whether my numbers will be up or down BEFORE I go in. Read an interesting article yesterday. Let me know what you think. BTW this forum is better than any doctor visit.
