Has anyone dealth with a sudden reduction in the need for insulin?

I've had the big D since May of last year, my Lantus needs were all over the map for the first couple months until I quit honeymooning and have been on 16 units a day since July. (Split 9 evening, 7 morning)

This week I've suddenly had to scale way back to try and cut down on the hypos. I'm currently splitting 7 evening, 3 morning, but will probably have to scale the evening dose back another unit or two. I'm not any more active than before. I work a normal desk job and am probably a bit less active than I was over the holidays. I have been eating healthier, but could that really account for a 40% reduction in insulin requirements?

My carb ratio was about 1:15, but that is something I feel has dropped as well. I need to do some testing and see if I can determine a new ratio.

Have you lost weight recently?

My insulin requirements will change for no reason, either up or down, and I've given up trying to figure out why. If I notice a trend over a few days I'll make adjustments.

"Sputtering" pancreas? Sometimes beta cells "rest up" through insulin use and output insulin sporadically. I am a slow-progressing LADA and have ups and downs in insulin requirement.

When the same thing happened to my daughter, the endo tested her adrenal function last year. Now that I think of it, it was this same exact time last year that it happened. Nothing showed up, and she is back to where she started.
