Hi all! I was diagnosed as type 2 diabetic on January 3, with a blood sugar level of 238. I had been pre-diabetic for a while, and based on how I had been feeling, it was no surprise. The doctor has me on glipizide 2.5 mg. Yesterday was my first follow-up appointment and it's gone down to 180. My A1C is 10.0.
I'm glad to find this forum because I'm going to need a LOT of help with this. I'm still waiting for the hospital to call with information about the classess I'm supposed to go to. Meanwhile, since both my mother and sister are diabetic and have been for years, I know a few things. Knowing and doing are two different things, unfortunately.
Anyway, just wanted to say hi.

Hi Misty:
Welcome to the forum! I think you'll enjoy the support and information you'll find here. Since you're from a family of diabetics, you probably do have a good overall knowledge. I can relate, yet NOTHING prepared me for the shock of my diagnosis. However, thanks to these great forum folks and overcoming my fear of needles and finally realizing that bread/pasta/rice/potatoes were not necessary to sustain life, i'm doing well.
I hope you get as much from this forum as I have. Welcome!

Misty,
I am new to this forum also, but have been diabetic for some time now. The best tool that I found for tracking BG levels and a myriad of other factors in one setting is a software program that you can download for free at www.healthsoftware.hazeleger.net. It keeps track of BP, Weight, BG levels and much more. It will even allow you to keep track of which fingers you use for blood draw. I found it very beneficial, in the beginning, because you can see in graph form what your efforts are having.
