Hello,:hello: to all. My name is Brenda. I was just diaganosed Yersterday :hmmmm2: ( 01/12/2007) With type 2. I hadn't been feeling good for almost a year. My doctor hade checked my A1c about 6 month ago and said that i need to watch what I was eating, and my numbers didn't match up my fasting blood sugar was low but my A1c was border line ( i felt that him telling me to watch what I was eating was kinda of funny, concerding i only weigh 102 lbs, and have always watched what i was eating):questionm, and told me to come and see him again in 6 month when he would like to check my blood work again. Well I went in and he check it and hear I am. My blood sugars can range any where between 78 and 221 during the day. The doctor told me he want to see if we can get it undercontrol by watching my diet.

Welcome to the Forums.
Ask any questions that you may have.
It's recommended that you see your doc every 2 to 3 months.
For better control, he/she may prescribe some medications.
Keep a detail log of your Bg's tests & take them to your doc on your next visit.
We're glad you're here:shakehand

Hi Brenda :ciao: Welcome to the DF familly!!

"Watching your diet" .. this is where docs NEED to clarify!! What he means, or SHOULD have said is ... watch your carb intake! Being that you weigh nearly nohting as it is , your calorie intake isn't as big of an issue here, but how many carbs you take in IS! Carbs are what your Blood Sugars react to most.

Browse the forums and read, read and read more! You'll learn more than you ever wanted to know!

Welcome to the forum!

Do you know how your doctor diagnosed Type 2? Did he order a c-peptide or a GAD65 antibody test?

Sorry that I haven't responded sooner ( had a bad case of the stomach flu). I called the Dr. office and the nurse told me that they did a c-peptide test along with a bunch of other ones too.

Welcome to the forum...i'm sure you'll find it filled with all sorts of useful information.

As a fellow T2, I urge you to watch your carb intake....it does make a difference in control. Since you're not overweight, hopefully you'll have an easier time controlling your levels. I'm overweight and was told to do "whatever it takes to lose weight," so being a normal weight will definitely be an advantage for you.

Hang in there....it's hard adjusting to anything new, but you'll do fine. Be sure and keep check on your blood sugar levels 2 hrs after eating and you'll be able to see what affect certain foods have on your levels, which will help you in making good choices.

Again, welcome!

Thank you :ahhhhh:. My blood sugars have been a little strange considering that i have been with the stomach thing, (got a strange question for you, sorry still new to this ) can not eating anything cause my number to be high at least for me.. i don't take med yet and am watching my diet . Had nothing to eat cause of the sickness and took my blood sugar and it was 181.

Any kind of infection/illness can cause your blood sugar levels to rise. I have also noticed that I can eat less and have higher levels, even when i'm not sick. I've read other posts here about high levels while sick, so it must be quite common. Hope you're feeling better soon.

Yes, not eating anything can cause your BGL to rise. Basically, not eating makes your liver go into "starvation mode" and it releases glucose because it thinks you need energy. Hence the higher BGL.
