Hello Everyone, Im New here and thought I would seek some information.
Here is what is going on with me.
I was diagnosed with type II diabetes in 2003 after being sick so much(stomach Problems) Then my BS was 326. Doctor put me on Glucophage 1000 mg a day, I was really depressed, but took the medication and started a new way of eating, lost 20 lbs and BS went down to 110. The medication was starting to cause me stomach cramps beyond any pain I could handle, I was taken off and told to control my diet.Since then I switched my Doctor.Well The problem is now, My doctor has tried to give me meds for high cholestrol (excuse spelling) and have had bad reactions to every one of them, All Statins and Zetia was the last on and had a reaction to that too. My BS has been high 258 ,so Doctor put me on Metformin 500mg a day. Quess what?!?
I started to get cramps in stomach and back so bad and stomach itched so much I broke the blood vessels under the skin. Well I seen you doctor yesterday and more bad news. Can't take the Metformin -Allergic, Another
she was going to try contains sulfa-Im Alergic, last is Actos,,Ok my mother in law just suffered heart failure from taking Actos I am scared. Doctor says I have to change my life now or I will die by year's end of Heart Attack or Stroke.Any suggestions??? I take Atenolol For high blood pressure too last BP 140/82. My Life is stressful and I have suffered with Sinus infections for over two years now.

Hi misstacalone, firstly, welcome to DF!
Well sheeeeeeeesh! That's quite a pickle your in there!!
I don't blame ya on the Actos, I took myself off it because it caused me to gain weight, that no matter what, I couldn't lose, nor was it helping me with my numbers anymore. My dad was on Avandamet (Avandia with Metformin) and he too had congestive heart failure and we nearly lost him. Actos and Avandia are pretty much the same thing, same bad side effects, etc. Everyone IS different, but still, I will NEVER take Actos again, nor EVER take Avandia!
I don't know of anything else you could take tho. Insulin is the only other thing I can think of! Hopefully there is someone here on the forum with some suggestions for you!!
I hope you get something figured out and soon!!!

Well Thank You LadyTaz, I am going to pray alot for more added strength and make some drastic changes, I turn 40 on Tuesday and I want to see my next birthdays. I know it won't be easy, but I refuse to do the needle thing, it is bad enough I have to test my blood. God Must have a plan for me with all that is being thrown my way. Thanks for answering my post.

You're most welcome.
As to your refusing to use the needle, hun, you may not have a choice! Especially if you want to continue to see your birthdays .... for a good long while!
My thinking: If I wanna live, I'll do WHATEVER I need to do!
I'm not thrilled about having to use the needle, but I am willing to do it if that is what needs to be done! I'll probably start using it come next month. It's more important for me to stay as healthy as possible and live as long as I can, rather than reject something that may very well help me just because I don't like the thought of it!
Good Luck!

Thank You, So Far Day #2 BG went from 268 (Sat, Morn) to 248 (Yesterday Morning) to 218 (this Morning) without meds so far because Pharmacy was closed. This afternoon it was 180. I am keeping track of what goes in the mouth. I say no to needles because I don't want to live having to use insulin the rest of my life. I know it is contradicting cause I want to live a long life, but I am willing to change everything in my life to avoid that.It means I need to get off the fast track of life and slow down to take care of me. I let my life and health go only doing half right and hoping it would get me the same results of doing it 100%. Now I have to take responsibility for what I've done to myself. I really appreciate your support, It means a lot, especially when trying to explain to family and ask for support from those who don't suffer from it.
Have a Great Evening:smile:

With Numbers like that I would have severe stomache problems also. My question would be why would you not use insulin?
Watch what happens to your stomche problems when your numbers get under control.
I would run not walk to get some insulin. Forget all about the stupid pronconceived notion about injecting insulin.
Maybe when you your numbers improve you might be able to control with diet and exercise.
Just imagine in your mind that it's clear thinking without the myopic fog, the tiredness, stomache problems, sense of feeling alive again.
Oh thats right with numbers like that it's hard to imagine things like these.
Wishing you all the best

Welcome MissT:
I am so sorry you are having to deal with so many different stresses right now. Hang in there!
I understand your fear of needles....I couldn't imagine having to even stick my fingers several times a day, but now I do it without thinking.
I couldn't imagine living with a diagnosis of diabetes....couldn't imagine not being able to eat like i've always eaten....couldn't imagine exercising everyday....couldn't imagine taking medicine for the rest of my life....couldn't imagine having to worry about all the possible complications.
Now, it's just slowly becoming part of my life. I want to live, keep my eyesight, keep my legs, not have a heart attack and live to grow old with my husband. Whatever I have to do to achieve these goals, I WILL DO, OR DIE TRYING!
My mother did try at all, and died at 54, after losing eyesight and her leg.
You deserve a long and healthy life. Taking control of all this, whatever it takes, will go a long way in giving you this. You'll also feel so much better when your levels are under control.
You hang in there. You are not alone!

Thank You For responding
I know my headaches are not related to diabetes becasue I suffered them for over 25 years and most were migraines which were dibilitating. Stomach problems have been something I have suffered from for over 20 years before diabetes, one bad case of food posioning can do that to some people including me. I have been called a medical anomally becuase I have reactions to amost everything predating diabetes diagnoses 4 years ago.My husband tells the doc. I'm allergic to air, his joke, but sometimes seems true. Due to so many reactions my doctor has to treat me homopathically.
I plan on doing what is right so I have a long life and have eyesite and limbs.
I know you weren't being rude to me and I appreciate it, I was just looking for support and I know my ways aren't like yours or other diabetics, and you probably heard the same from others, but I ask for no judgement.
Thank you
