Well I thought the best place to start would be at the beginning! I am 29 years old and I was diagnosed as a Type 2 Diabetic back in August 2005. It came to light in April 2005 when I was having blood tests for something else; it then took a couple of months to get a Glucose Tolerance Test done at the local hospital to confirm my diagnosis!
Whilst I have tried I will openly admit not as hard as I could, and this past 12 months I think I have been in complete denial about the fact I am a diabetic!
Last year I went through a really bad bout of depression which almost resulted in me taking my own life and having 7 months off work.
I was initially given Metformin at 2000mg a day and I was lucky not to have side effects with it, however I stopped taking it around September last year when things for me where at an all time low.
At my last Diabetic review in August 2006, I was given Glicizide but I have yet to take it although my doctor does not know this.
Feeling better this past couple of weeks I have come to realise I have been seriously neglecting my diabetes and my blood sugars are constantly out of whack and I know this is nothing but my own fault.
I am seriously trying to turn my life around and I am determined that 2007 is going to be a step forward. I am going to take my diabetes more seriously and I am going to lose weight.
I’ll be 30 later this year and I know that no matter what I have been through this past couple of years there is only me that can fix the problems and work towards controlling what I have!
Well I guess that is my introduction to this place, I live in the UK and I am single with just my furbaby for company… I am back at work now, I returned there beginning of December and whilst I am enjoying being back there I find I am extremely tired most of the time.

Hi MooseGirl!
Welcome to the forum!
I'm around the same age as you (30) and also have Type 2 Diabetes. I was diagnosed back in 2004 and have since lost a lot of weight and have my Diabetes under control and believe me it was worth all the hard work and effort as I feel infinately better than I have for some time!
I have more energy than ever before and I no longer get tired from walking up a couple of flights of stairs! Now I can even run up three flights of stairs (where I work) and only just get out of breath.
Good luck with coming to terms with your Diabetes and keep coming to the forum and ask lots of questions as I have found that there are lots of knowledgable, helpfull and friendly people on this site!
:)

Welcome Moosegirl...!!!
You have made a huge step... by joining DF... There are many people here that can help and give you a little laugh... Take one step at a time...
How are your sugars when you are tired? Are you eating enough...A little more protein helps me and a little less carbs..Remember to drink your water..When you feel tired get up and walk around sip some tea..Change the routine a little...These are the things that I do to kick start my brain and body!... Wishing you well ....Yes ! 2007 is going to be an awesome year...
Welcome Moosegirl, I think you'll like it here, good fun, good laughs, good advise, mostly, and a few small rows to keep things from getting boring. You have the thought process going in the right direction so all you have to do is get yourself properly motivated and bingo, you are half ways there. The other half is to eat properly and exercise. Probably one of the best exercises you can do won't even cost you money. For instance it's just walking. I know you can do it. You seem to have the motivation, so now just get started. I wish you well and good luck with your endeavours. Let us all know how you are doing.

Hi Moosegirl:
You've found an excellent place for friendship, information and support. Welcome!
I'm so sorry that you've had such a rough go of it...I know diabetes can be some all-consuming at times that it's hard to handle. You will find, however, that the better you control it, the better you'll feel.
I know that whenever my levels are elevated, I often feel very tired, so maybe when your levels are more stable you'll have more energy.
I urge you to be compliant with your mediations, give them a chance to help you. You deserve to feel good. You can feel good with diabetes.
I hate that you have been feeling so depressed. I do understand how a diagnosis like this can throw you for a loop. I have found that if I exercise regularly, my mood is better ( I don't ENJOY exercise, but I love the side-effects). I was diagnosed back in Aug 06 and still struggle to handle it, mentally and physically. It's a process I think we all go through.
Hang in there. Please let us know how you're doing.:hello:

Hiya Moosegirl, nice to see a fellow brit on the forums, hope you get as much help advice and support as I have from this place.
Half the battle of solving a problem is recognising the problem and its nice to see your trying to turn things around.

Hello Moosegirl,
Welcome to the forum, I am new myself and must say you have come to the right place. The first thing you need to get this beast under control is this forum, then you also need motivation and understanding, which you will get here. I am still strugling to understand what I am going through but the more you learn about your chosen subject the more you will understand it.
You must take your meds, I have learnt that much thus far. I personally am experimenting with exercise and diet and yes they both make a difference although not enough on there own in my case, they certainly help.
Chin up and remember to smile and maybe laugh out loud sometimes (preferrably in public with no reason to do so). It might not make you feel better but knowing that everyone else thinks you're a nutter will! :D
