View Full Version : Flying with pump
My husband will be flying next week for the first time since he got his pump. I read that the pump should not be wanded because it alters the memory. Problem is that my hubby has a pacemaker and thus, cannot go through the metal detector and has to be personally searched and they always wand him. Should he remove the pump during the personal search/wanding???
Has anyone else had this type of experience?

I've had mine wanded a couple of times at the airport and concerts--no biggie. You say those magic words "diabetic, insulin dependent with an insulin pump" and you're usually all set.

Who knows now, but 1.5 years ago I got frisked because I didn't want to take mine off at airport security in France. I'd rather take it off next time -- anyone know if it's ok to go through the metal detector?

Cause the TSA agents don't know pathophysiology? BTW, that would fool some nurses and doctors too.

I've flown with my pump and I didn't take it off, cause that just seems wrong to me. I just told them what it was, it set off detector, they wanded me. No biggy. I had note from doctor in case, but I didn't need it.

Metal detectors and wanding will not hurt a pump.....X-rays are another story. All pump maufacturers warn that pumps should not be X-rayed or near X-rays, that includes MRI, CAT Scans and other medical X-rays.
