Greetings to everyone,
I am a new member here and have been doing a lot of reading. I am type 2; female (my screen name is a tribute to a beautiful Maine Coon cat); age 56; and a stupid professor (i.e. I know a lot about one thing and very little about most other things in life). Married 34 years; two sons aged 32 and 30; and having a major diabetes upheaval.
I went from several years (from Sept. 1999 until sometime in late 2005 or early 2006) of sticking in range (80-130) with 500 mg/glucophage. That one tablet of glucophage (metformin) worked so well that I must have become complacent since I stopped eating prudently. Then my body went haywire and I started having readings (last summer) in the 200's=300's. I am working hard at my eating but virtue is no longer sufficient.
I have a good exercise program at a fantastic gym and getting hooked on audio books has helped me to keep up my motivation. Even if I don't feel like panting at a treadmill, I want to know what goes on in the book.
Aside from being a diabetic, my interests include travel, reading, music, cats, theatre, knitting, perfumes, fountain pens, current events, politics.
Thank you.

Hello Doulton and welcome. It sounds like you are doing all the right things to get some control. I think most of us had to get in bad shape before we decided it was time to get serious about Diabetes.

I am a Type 2, for over ten years, who thought I had every thing "under control" until my reading would bottom out about on for no reason. After my A1c jumped from 6.2 to 8.? I began insulin on January 2, 2007. with a little adjustment my readings are back to being acceptable.
Read everything you can and use what works for you. Best of luck

Welcome Prof.Doulton, Mrshinton, and Heath.
You are all welcome to the forum. I think it's a wonderful site and you may learn more here than you ever learn from books or doctors. It's also a fun site if you want it to be. I hope you all enjoy your experiences here and hopefully you will all join in and contribute your own perspective.
