Okay, not sure if this is possible?? Is it possible to have a pump malfunction and give to much insulin. Last night my little guy had a severe low. I checked him at 10:35 and he was 7.5. At 11:30 he was so low my moniter did not read. He was given his glucose through intravenous. We checked him on way to hospital and he was at 7 and then when we got there he ate a popsicle and all this time from 1130 his pump was turned off??
This morning I cut his basals by 20% and he was low again in am 3.8....
What am I doing wrong?? Has anyone heard of pump malfunctioning???
Thanks everyone

Basal rates, ISF's and I:C ratios can all change throughout the day. Testing needs to be done at different times so that the pump can be fine tuned. There is a good site here (http://www.insulin-pumpers.org/howto.shtml) with tips on how to do the tests.
I've never had my pump give the wrong amount of insulin based on it's settings.

It's a computer, so anything is possible. Although I've been told that with all the safety checks that they do one detects if more insulin is being given than should be. If more is, then it shuts the pump down, causing the BG to go up instead of down.
Keep in mind that over time and heck, especially during winter illness, that anything can cause numbers to change without notice.

One problem with kids is they do not stay the same size and weight. I would think rate validation an ongoing necessity.
