Hi I have type 2 and I really miss ice cream. I'm starting to feel like a drug addict that needs an ice cream fix. Has any company addressed this problem without including sorbitol and others of the same ilk which sends me right into the bathroom? Has any company done it with Splenda? I really don't know where to turn to find out about this.

HI! I like the Kroger brand ice cream. It is made with Splenda. The only problem that I have with no sugar added ice cream is that it is really hard-makes it very difficult to dish out. The taste is not bad at all. Enjoy! Forgot to tell you it is Kroger No Sugar Added Ice Cream. Beth

How about frozen yogurt? I buy low carb yogurt and freeze it - tastes great!

HI & Welcome to the forum.
I do NOT buy sugar-free or no sugar added ice cream. When you compare regular ice cream and you look at the total carbohydrates, there is very little difference. ALL of them will raise my blood sugars, so I'm sticking with the real stuff!

I, too, miss ice cream...haven't had any since my diagnosis in Aug. 06.
Before diagnosis, I had the Breyer's Carb Freedom icecream while on South Beach Diet and it tasted very good, little different texture though. Also, Edie's has a S/F variety that is good as well.
My problem with ice cream would be portion control, so for me, it's best I don't. Not sure how it would affect our levels (i'm T2 as well).
If you find something good that doesn't raise your levels, please share the info.

You are soooooo right about the label saying sugar free but it has about the same carbs as reg....cool whip is one.
When I buy ice cream it is Edy's Grand Light..French silk...a bowl is 3.0 units and that is if I use the small one with no add ons!!!!!!

I stick to the real stuff (full fat even) for my son. I find it a great before bedtime snack as a serving of full fat ice cream (I look on the tub for the content indications) have 15 g of carbs which is just right for the bedtime snack - or in-between snack for that matter. The full fat means that it is a slow release carb which is good for lasting through the night.

I eat the edy's with splenda and have tried the blue bunny with splenda, you really cannot tell the difference.

right....
i see a huge difference in my BGL when i eat regular vs the s/f kind... i can usually have twice as much sugar free vs the regular.....
now my fudgesicle that i used to buy..... i hate them sugar free yukkkkk.... so those i will buy regular kind lol
but if it tastes awesome even though its no sugar added why eat the regular with the extra fat etc....
i think i'll go by the taste on ice cream......
but cool whip your right..i get the regular kind... cause there is no difference in it.

Good point Karen! As a type I i simply count the carbs for regular ice cream and give a bolus. It might be different for type II's who don't inject insulin. This type I likes Bassets n Hagen Das.
