Quick History:

- Never in my life have I had heartburn OR indigestion. It just never happened.

- I start having Heartburn BAD - and I mean crippling bad.

- I quit smoking September of last year, thinking that would help some.

- It did.

- Now, I get heartburn occassionally - but let me tell you, when I get it - it causes a lot of pain, and walking out to my car is a chore.

I mean the burning sensation goes into my chest, arms - back - neck -

I am going to see the Doctor about it - but I was wondering:

1. Could this be neuropothy related? (I believe it can.)

2. Has anyone else here experienced bad (really bad) heartburn? The kind where it burns bad enough that walking across the room is an effort?

I should also add, that if my bs goes high during one of these episodes, the heartburn gets much worse.

I know that sounds like an obvious statement, but thought I would add it.

My heartburn feels so bad I'm sure it could eat the armor belt they put on the New Jersey class battleships.

I can't say that my blood sugar seems to have any impact on it. I just have it like that all the time.

I have know Idea why but I get the worst case of heartburn when my BS starts to takes dives like down fast.

When I go low the heartburn is a good sign to check my BG. This will wake me out of sleep and I am a deep sleeper.

I have know idea why this happens.

I must be rare because I very rarely hear anyone here mention it.

These are the only times I experience heartburn that I know of.

I eat a lot of spicy food with chile and this will not percipitate heartburn for me nor fatty meals.

There must be some correlation of going low and heartburn for me, usually when the move down real fast is a sure way of experiencing this.

Please don't wait to see your doctor. My husband thought he was having heartburn, this was on and off for a long time, turned out it was his heart giving him warning.

Any pain that radiates to "chest, back arms and neck" sounds like it could be cardiac in nature and should DEFINITELY be check out...and soon! You didn't mention any nausea, but that's another symptom of heart as well.

I'd rather go to ER/doctor and be told it was "heartburn/anxiety" than not go and have a heart attack, extensive heart muscle damage....or worse. Don't let this linger.

Thanks for the replies gang - the only reason I am not rushing to the Hospital, is that a year ago - well a little less actually, I had full heart scans etc.

I realize that heart problems CAN develop in less than a year - but after all the full scans etc. they showed up nothing.

I am going on Monday to see my doctor - and most days (like today) I feel perfectly fine.

But believe me, I have no problem going to the doctor and/or emergency room when it is warranted.

I will post here what the doctor says.

I don't want you to think that I am having chest pressure/pain - fever, left arm pain etc. - I am not.

It appears to be just brutal indigestion (hoping it is not GERD.)

Thanks - I AM going to make sure the Doctor checks everything, but in my own defense here:

- it isn't a "pain" - it is a burning.

- I don't really have any heart failure or angina symptoms (at least none that the mayo clinic lists.)

- ROLAIDS cures the problem. So I am guessing it is crazy bad heartburn that is hitting me from time to time.

But I am definitely having everything checked out this coming Monday morning at 8 am.

If I get bad heartburn again before then I will just go to the e-room.
