Hi! I haven't posted on this site yet, but we finally got our pump! My daughter is 13 and was dx 13 months ago. My Dad reads this forum all the time and told me about it. He gives me a lot of very good info, but it is overwhelming to say the least. He did purchase me the Pumping Insulin book many of you suggested and thank you it will be very helpful. By the way, he is Tennis coach. We have had the pump 11 days and we have had issues with the basal rate.
She was on Levemir 16am/16pm and they started us out on 1.35-as you can imagine we had several lows with that and now I am using 3 basals rates:
9am-10pm 1.2
10pm-2am 0.8
2am-9am 0.7
The nurse and I do this. Not the doctor. I am a RN and this helps with the skills of the shots, etc., but not at all with Type I Diabetes! Especially when it is your daughter.
I know this is very lengthy, sorry, but I am very tired. I am checking her BS every 2-3 hrs at night because she seems to go low when her number is "normal". A 138 at 4am means a low at 7am. And, just when I think I know what she will do, I'm wrong. Any suggestions for good bedtime snacks when she is high (because she is always hurngry at bedtime) or what to eat when she is "normal" to keep her up thru the night? Should she be eating a consistent carb count every day to help us get in control? I am so many more questions, but this is enough for now. We use the Cleo 6mm and this is what sold her, she hated the pain with the Comfort Sets. Thanks for any info.
