I was on earlier about our 13 yr. old daughter being new on the Cozmo. Pretty good numbers today. 133 at supper and covered properly. Now she is 284 and doesn't feel so well and wants a snack. Any suggestions greatly appreciated! Nights are hard for us.

well she will need to correct either way so you might as well add another half unit or whatever for the snack

We've been told to be cautious with the Novolog at bedtime and they generally do not like us correcting. I do occassionally correct because I check her so much anyway.

i agree with that however 280 is very high. i would see what the pump recommends and take a little bit off that to be on the safe side

I would give a half bolus for bs and snack.

I would go with sugar-free Jell-O or something without any carbs. That's what I do when I need a snack at night.

When Sammy wants a snack at night and doesn't need carbs I give her some cheese or a scoop of peanut butter. It usually satisfies her but doesn't do much to her sugar. But, she is also eight and pretty easy to please, so ....

Hi,

We run into this often as Aaron (growing teen) is starving at bedtime and eats a huge snack (therefore big bolus) and evening seems to be one of his more common "high" times. We correct, cover the carbs he eats conservatively (with about 15 free) and I check him abot 3.5 hours later -- about the time his bolus should be almost done -- to make sure he's not low (or way high).

Since you're just starting wtih the pump and they want you to be careful, maybe just give a correction to bring it down partway, say under 200. Then either cover the snack or low-carb it. Aaron sometimes has a big omelette with cheese and green peppers if he's really hungry at bedtime but also running high.

I completely understand the worry about night time corrections. Perhaps you could try 1/2 of the suggested correction amount. At least the bg would go down somewhat...

As for late night snacks, I stick with lunch meat, cheese, nuts, or anything low carb.
