Hello all,
I am new to this forum.
I am a 55 year old male type 2.
I am kind of retired for 2 years, but it is now time to back to work, darn it.
I have been a diabetic for about 10 years.
Due to me inactivity and lazyness my BS is now out of control.
I have doubled my pills (euglucon 5mg) for about a week and my BS is still the same 350 to 400. I know this is extremely high.
I recently purchased ketostix to check out me keytones and the results were trace (5mg/dl).

My teeth and gums are sore, my foreskin is swollen.
My research tells me that I have thrush.

What my research does not tell me is, do I treat the thrush or high BS first.
I believe that that high BS is the cause of the thrush and the BS should be treated first.
Please comment on that .

I am now going to change my meds to Bi-Euglucon M (500 mg - 5 mg)
(metformina-glibenclamida)

I have been getting my meds in Cancun Mexico for many years (Roche)
I know I should go to the doctor first but I have no insurance and my doctor
will want to due a hundred tests on me and bleed me dry.

All these problems started when I quit smoking :smokin: LOL
If I drink a ton of beer I can get my BS down to 185.
I only tried this once, just to see if I could get my BS down. The next morning back to 370.
If anyone has had thrush please tell about your cure/experience.
Has anyone changed there meds on ther own?
Am I a total idiot?

Thanks for listening

Hello Tx:
Sounds like you've got a lot going on. I think you can treat both problems at the same time. You probably have gotten the thrush because of the high glucose levels (just as women often get yeast infections when their blood sugars are out of whack). You will need to go to the doc and get something for the thrush. There's a mouthwash you can get by prescription "called miracle mouthwash" that your doc can call in for you. To take care of the yeast on the penis, you'll probably need a prescription for Diflucan (it comes in generic, so hopefully it won't be too expensive). Be very careful, as you can "share" this with your partner if it's not taken care of. As your blood sugars regulate, you'll have less problems with the yeast. There is also a powder or lotion you can buy at WalMart called ZeaSorb AF to treat the symptoms of itching and burning, but this will not "cure" the problem.

As for you blood sugars, they are certainly out of control. I would suggest that you see your doctor soon. Also, you can bring things around with a really low-carb diet and exercise. Try and avoid breads, potatoes, rice, pastas, sweets and drink plenty of water. Also, if your blood sugar isn't about 200, do some type of exercising...walking if nothing else.

You'll certainly feel much better when you get things in control. Hope this info is helpful....I work in a doctors office and we deal with things like thrush/yeast inf. a lot, so i'm up on some of the treatments.

All the best,
Linda

You can treat both thrush and diabetes at the same time!

For USAers, Bi-Euglucon is Glucovance. Glucovance is a combination of two medicines--glyburide (DiaBeta, Micronase) and metformin (Glucophage).

Always keep your meter with you if you take glyburide, which stimulates the pancreas to make more insulin. And carry glucose tablets or other quick sugar source with you when you are out so that you can treat any lows. But of course, be careful not to over treat.

While taking glyburide, don't drink that ton of beer. You can get very low blood sugar if you do that.

If it were me and I thought glyburide were the way to go, I would start with a lower dose. But I'd probably prefer a higher dose of the metformin before going to glyburide.

I don't know enough to advise on the "big problem" but I will use peroride when my gums are inflamed. I hold the peroxide in my mouth until it has subsided bubbling or the expansion/gasses make it uncomfortable--also really great for swimmer's ear! Good luck!

Well I have learned quite a bit from this site and have made some major changes to my diet.

My sugar is now 210 before and 2 hours after eating.
Its coming down and its only been 3 days. I was in the 350-400 range for about 10 days. I changed my meds to 500/5 x 2 Metformina/ glibenclamida.
(I had these at home from a misordered internet experience).

I realy think its the diet change not the meds.
Teeth and gums almost back to normal.
Still swollen down there but not as bad.

I have been consuming way to many carbs for years. Its a wonder it didnt catch up with me before.

When I get back to normal i will go back to 5mg x2 and monitor.

That's great! Eating better can make a huge difference for many people. Looks like you may be one of them. When eating better leads to weightloss, that can make even more improvment for many people (if they were overweight to start with). Getting BG down 200 points like that in three days is super!
