I am experimenting with bolusing for protein as well as carbs, and I'm wondering what works best for others. I have a terrible time estimating grams of protein, so for now I'm just tacking on another unit or 2 as a combo bolus over 2 hours (I:C is 1:15, FWIW). It's working, just not as well as I'd like, and I don't know where to start making changes- estimate a higher amount of protein and give more insulin, give the same amount over a longer duration, give the same amount over a shorter duration??? So many variables! I know that testing is the only way to straighten this out, but I would love to know what works for those of you who bolus for protein.

Thanks in advance for your help!

I bolus for protein... I calculate what I call equivalents carbs by taking 75% of the protein content, YMMV. Then I do a 30/70 combo bolus over 3 hours for the protein. Works like a charm for me...

So, in addition to your carb bolus, you also take 30% of the protein bolus up front? Hmmm...I hadn't thought of trying that....sounds like a a good idea though!

Slightly off-topic now- are you still using Symlin or has the combo bolus done away with that? My doc wants me to think about it, and I'm getting sick of these postprandial numbers....
