Hi all I'm new year and thought I would start by letting you know a bit about us. My Daughter Emma was dx at 14 months old with a blood sugar reading of 74 (1332). She was in DKA to the point that all limbs and none vital organs were shutting down (she was blue from head to toe). It didnt need to get that far but no one would listen to me that she was diabetic! I had that baby in and out of the hospital and doctors office for more then 4 months and no one would listen (I even had her in the day before she was dx and the doctor told me that she has hyper sensitive viens and that is she was diabetic she would be a lot sicker). Emma started on pump when she was 16 months old and we are so grateful for that little piece of technology! Since she was dx emma has not had any hospital admission (touch wood) and she has been doing very well. We battle the highs and lows all the time it seems every week is new, something needs to be changed but all in all she is doing great. We are from Ontario Canada and are now taking part in a research study call the "trigger study" its a world wide study that is looking at "high risk" children and trying to see if milk protein plays a part in the on set of diabetes. My four month old son would be considered "high risk" as he has tested positive for the gene.
