View Full Version : Does it hurt when you change a set?

Honestly, does it hurt when you insert a set? Is it any worse than giving an injection in your stomach? I'm getting a little weird about this the closer I get to it. Just curious as to whether or not it hurts.

Could sometimes, but usually not.

Don't have a lot of experience - just one time when we were looking at
different pumps I tried once on myself to see how my daughter would
feel and it was not bad at all.

My daughter loves her pump and would never go back to MDI.

sometimes they hurt but then for some sets there are injection aids. but there are also times (i'd say it's about 50/50 for me) when they don't hurt. i've never had an aid, they've all been manual and i am sooo slow to get them in as the needles seem longer but here i am doing mdi again (pump problems) and am finding normal needle injections aren't any better and there's more of 'em! can't wait til the pump is up and running again, this is torture!

I uses the quik sets, and the only thing that hurts is the adheisive tape when it pulls off. I don't use the inserter. Putting in the new sets , hurts less then a poke.

i actually had my most painful insertion today

it resembled the pain of a fingerstick, lol

so no, most of them dont hurt, and the ones that do barely do because they go in so fast

i use the quicksets with quickserter

I've only had two sets in so far, but neither of them hurt. I could feel the needle going in for sure, but it didn't hurt at all. I could feel it more than an injection, though. But it might be different for different sets, I use the Cleo. I have samples of the Comforts, but the idea of putting those in all by myself (the Cleos at least have a built-in inserter thing) kind of scare me!

I have been pumping now for 3 months using the Quick sets and the inserter. I can say only once did it hurt. Most of the time Inever even feel it. Ihad more hurts when injecting than with this. The one that hurt stopped hurting after about 2 minutes. Nothing to be worried about.

I find it hurts a little more than a shot, but I never felt the shots, and I usually feel some stinging from the set change.

I am a charter member of the Weinie Club when it comes to needles, but I can truly say that I rarely feel the set go in. When I was on MDI it seemed that maybe one out of 5 injections stung or hurt - and those were OW, OW, OW, OW, OW! But with my Quick-sets it may be 1 out of 10 that I even feel go in - and it's more of an "ow,ow". Sometimes I don't believe it's in there! At first I'd play a little game. if I felt a twinge or something that I figured MUST be my set starting to hurt I'd put my hand where the set was - without looking. 9 times out of 10 my hand would go to a blank spot on my tummy - not even near where the set really was!

I've never felt a bolus - including big ones like 12 units or so. You will be so surprised.

That was what I was SOOOOOO dreading and my face must have been awfully funny when I did that first insertion and couldn't believe it was in. So ... try not to worry about it. I just kept telling myself - if it really hurt would there be all these people on here being so happy about it???

Good luck!

Just a slight discomfort once in a while. A "borg" such as myself doesn't feel pain. Right John? You have been assimilated. I did freak out one time when I saw blood pumping back into the set's tube towards my reservoir . I kinked the tubing and removed that set quickly and replaced it.

It feels like a pinch and sometimes it will sting for a few minutes after insertion, but it quickly goes away!

All I can add is that you'll love that pump

My son says it does hurt more than most injections (he was on teeny tiny needles) and it varies - some he barely feels and some sting for a bit. For him it's more than worth it.

I use the Insets and don't feel a thing. The first time I ever inserted I asked my trainer, "Is that it? is it in?"

Does it hurt?

Ok, let's see ya gotta stick this HUGE LONG thing into your body and then pump chemicals thru thig HUGE LONG thing, then three days later, ya gotta do it aLL OVER AGAIN--------Naw that wouldn't hurt at all

Actually, I tried it when the CDE was pushing pump at me, I didn't think it was any worse than injecting.

With the Cleo's, the only pain is ripping the belly hair off. With QuickSets, it is like a fingerstick.

However, when I pull the tape off, it pulls the hair off my BELLY!!!!

With the Insets, I almost never feel it, and when I do, it's just a minor ouch. (Finger sticks for BG tests are worse.) It's the THWACK sound of the inserter that was a little unnerving when I first started.

Hoping you love your pump as much as I love mine!
cheers,

Honestly, I wouldn't say that it's real pain, but every now and then I'll feel the set as it's being inserted. However, I have to say that I am a BIG baby when it comes to shots or any type of injection. I still hesitate when it comes to changes my set & I think I work myself up over it. Instead of just doing it and getting it over with, I'll pause... and I think that makes it a lot worse.

I do use the quickserter, which is a necessity for me... And, really, it isn't a big deal... Try not to worry about it. Once you do it a few times, you'll do fine (unless you're a drama queen like me, which I highly doubt, and even then I still manage to do it w/o much of a problem).

Good luck :)

I do the same exact thing with the pausing and procrasinating and working myself up over it! And I never did that with injections. My first insulin shot didn't hurt at all, but my first infusion set killed, so maybe that left a bad impression.

Have you ever tried using Uni-Solve or something similar when you remove your set. I use IV Prep when I put in a new set and Uni-Solve when I remove one. It slides right off.

Additionally someone mentioned that it pulls up hair. I shave my stomach and with the Uni-Solve it doesn't pull up on the little hair that has started to re grow in 3 days.

A little uncomfortable, but not really painful. Syringes were neither.
