View Full Version : How do you wear your pump?

I'm curious as to how and where you all wear your pumps, including hanging over your ear, if thats how you do it, lol. Should I get a case for it? Or not? What are your opinions. I did buy a waist thing that goes under your clothes, like for sleeping, or the gym, or whatever. Am wondering if I need to get a case. It came with a holster and a smaller clip that can be worn on your waistband on pants. What do you all think? How do you do yours?

I wear mine (a Paradigm 512) with the holster almost exclusively- easy access and I don't mind the extra bulk since the holster does provide a little extra protection. I will use the low-profile clip if I'm wearing it with dressier clothes or under clothing (for example, clipped inside the waistband of dress pants with the clip facing out). I haven't bothered with a case for it, but I do put a piece of screen protector film over the screen because it always gets scratched. The film is designed for PDAs and cell phones and can be found at almost any office of electronics store.

Also, for even less visibility (in tight fitting jeans, for example): clip on the outside, at the back - sort of like microphone transmitters singers have at concerts, only on the inside of the waistband.

Yep- exactly what I do, especially with pocket-less pants or snug fitting tops when you don't want the "pump bulge" showing under your clothes!

I used to wear it on my waist band, but, lately, I haven't been wearing it that way...I don't know, just looks a little tacky IMO (no offense intended) Now, I prefer to put it in my pocket, or tuck it in my sock (I know that's weird, but it seems to work :s:. )

I wear my pump in a shirt pocket almost always. I cut a tiny slit on the backside of the pocket for the tubing. I sleep in t-shirts with pockets also.

Waistband with the smaller clip. Just realized I haven't worn a dress since I started pumping. Hmmmm. Have some dressy pants outfits though.

ya i think the holster clips are horrible. they stick out too much and they remind me of those things you use to close bags of potato chips after they have been opened

Cozmo doesn't have the clip. They have the holster, and the pleather case thingy that sucks.

After using the holster for 8 or 9 months, I am now using the clip. It seems to make the pump feel much lighter.

I usually wear my pump on the waist and tuck the tubing inside my pants. I wear thin PJ bottoms and clip the pump in the center of the waistband because I sleep on my side.

Sometimes I use the holster on my belt but about 90% of the time I just have it in my left pants pocket.

Ditto Right pocket though. I ware dress pants to work everyday and the pump fits nicely in the coin pocket inside my right pocket.

i was starting to think i was the only one putting it in my pants pocket but now i see i'm not alone - mine is always in my left pocket but that does limit which pants i can wear and dresses are a no-no (altho for the times you have to wear one i strap it to my upper thigh with that retarded looking white-stretchy-velcro thing, so tight cuz i'm always paranoid it'll slip off)

Nope, not alone at all. Mine is in a pants pocket probably 5 days a week minimum - left or right, depending on where I put the site. Slacks at work, jeans on the weekends (and it's always a 3 day weekend for me, working 4/10s).

cheers,

Have always been reluctant to wear the pump on my belt where it is visible. Its not that I keep the D a secret to my friends etc its just something I don't advertise.I Recently got a pair of columbia brand pants from dicks sporting goods (and no I am in no way associated with said company just an insulin junkie sharing my experiences) In the right hand pocket close to the bottom there is a smaller coin type pocket so I can cut a slit in there to thread my infusion set through and since the slit is shielded by the coin pocket flap other items in my pocket don't suddenly fall through or cause the hole in my pocket to get any bigger. Always a pain in the *** to see my pen clicker fall out of my pantleg. Anyway The pants also have a zipper type pocket on the right leg that could be used to hold a pump or testing kit stuff. Hate having too many things in my pockets so these pants work well. Usually put a piece of toilet paper in my testing strip container to stop the strips from making noise when I walk.

Front pants' pocket. They're always there--so why not use 'em. One for my pump, the other for my phone.

Usually the belt for me -- heed the advice of the other posters and get the PDA screen films. My pump is only 1.5 years old, and it's so scratched I have trouble reading it!

When the darn leather case from Cozmo is working, then it's on the waist of my jeans. When it's not working then it's in my jeans pocket. I do hate having it in my pocket though.

I don't like having to carry around an extra meter, so the clear Cozmo case is out for me. I guess I could go back to doing that though...until my new replacement leather one comes off of backorder and gets to me. :)

When I change into my jammies, I have these flannel ones from the Big Dogs store that have a pocket on the left leg just outside the knee. I slip it in that pocket then. :)

Animas doesn't have a clip for the back either, but does have a slot for it (I figured that was what it is for). I called and they said they will have a clip--probably by Feb. I sure hope so. Don't like the holster thing. Too big. Did get a small leather thing with mine though that isn't too bulky. Repeat, but still cannot figure how they can develop something this complicated, and no clip for the back. My old minimed (508) had a clip on the back. Liked it much better. I am tired of this thing falling off my waistband, etc. Couple of times it pulled out completely, most of the time it is OK, but it still irritates me. I found one cell phone case that holds pretty good. Tuck it into bra most of the time though. Doesn't irritate me as bad there.

What I did so I could wear dresses, even little sexy ones, was buy a bandeau bra (you know the lycra/spandex pull on thing. Body Wrap makes them, they are available at Nordstrom for about $22.00) I wear it around my waist. My cozmo (named Greta Carbo in honour of my swedish heritage) fits right in and I don't need a clip of any kind. I've worn it with lightweight knits and people can't tell. I am not built in a way that can accommodate my pump in a bra, lets just say the pump is bigger than I am, I would have to have two pumps for it to work right.

If my dress fabric is somewhat slinky, I put a couple rubber bands around the pump to give it traction. I do have to go to a private place to bolus, but at least I can wear a strapless minidress and my pump at the same time.

What kind of pump do you have? The Minimed remote is perfect for this sort of thing- in fact, that's why I bought it! No more running off to the restroom to bolus or suspend.

I like your idea of the bandeau bra- I may have to give that a try!

Mine is a MM722. I still can't get the hang of how to wear it after 3 days of having it.

I like to clip my pump onto the underwire of my bra. It feels secure and is easy to get to. At night I remove it from the clip and slip it into a little pocket with velcro closure. I made the pocket with a tab on the end which pins to my sleep clothes.

In a cell phone case hanging off of a belt loop, in a pocket, or if I was wearing a dress and didn't have a place to put it I wore running shorts under the dress and stuck it in there. I never put it in my bra, many women do. why not you ask?? because I'd look like i have a weird third boob. ;)

My favorite set sites were on my sides and chest (above breast tissue, below collar bone).

Somedays I miss my pump. Not that I need it. it was just my security blanket.

I have a small slit at the top corner of my pant pockets (just big enough to fit the connector through. To bolus I just use Animas's audio bolus feature on vibrate. I can litereally bolus while I'm talking to someone and they wouldn't know.

My Animas came with a big belt clip that slides into the back of the pump. I also tested a new clip from Animas and posted pix in the gallery.

I just ordered two cases from two different sites that are making cases for the Cozmo, that are large enough to hold the lancer and a vial of strips. The Pumpwear site and the diabetesmall site both have them. She really like not having the pump clipped to the waistband now.

Basically I have three main options. First off, the cases from Cozmo. Second I use cell phone cases. I just scored a great bunch of them from Claire's that accessory store for teen and pre-teen fashionistas. And third, when I am wearing a dress or somewhat form fittnig clothes, I wear a bandeau bra (they are strapless, made out of lycra/spandex) around my waist and tuck Greta Carbo - my pump - in there.
