I think I had a dodgy set the other day, bc my BG was just gradually creeping up over the day and then when I tested the meter just said 'HI', so thats over 33.3mmol/L!! I don't understand how a set can do that!! Is it the actual site on your body or the infusion set that causes the problems?
Either...You may have a "region" on your body where absorption is slow or slower than you are used to...you won't know until you have that problem, unfortunately. And you could have kinked/bent/plugged your insertion set somehow--that happens from time to time, and again you generally don't know until it's "too late".
Like Cyborg says, if you're not sure, rip that sucker out and re-do it.

I just did that. I ran in the 300s yesterday, gave some insulin, within an hour it was down to 222. Therefore I thought I miscalculated the blizzard I had for dinner. Well, before I went to bed, again, in the low 300s. I was puzzled, but gave some insulin and went to bed. Keep in mind during that entire set I had the "Animas Sting" which 9 times outta 10 on me the set works, it just hurts and I deal with it, lol. Well, I guess this set didn't work.
Woke up this morning at 361, so I ripped the **** thing out, considered going back to MDI again, thought **** no, then put a new set in.

JediSkipdogg, when you say Blizzard, do you mean the thing from Dairy Queen? And if you do, how many carbs are in one of those suckers? I'm not an ice-creamy person but once in a blue moon.....:)thanks!

Yes, the DQ thing....and it can vary greatly. I got the X-Treme (blizzard of the month) and the Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough. Hey, I'm in their blizzard of the month club and get buy one get one free coupons every month, lol. Well, the CCCD one has 105 carbs in a small. The X-Treme I couldn't find anything on so I had to guess.
You have to really watch with them what the ingredients are as they can make a huge difference. Like a butterfinger small is only 75 carbs.
FYI....I DID NOT eat the entire thing, just half of the X-Treme, and froze the rest and the entire other one.

I had one of those days also a week or so ago. I woke up with a reading of HI. I took insulin by needle and watch the numbers slowly creep downward. Never knew what caused the HI, but I changed my set and everything was fine after that. I was almost due for a set change anyhow.
My guess is that you just had a bad site.

maybe it was the crapload of fat the blizzard had.
maybe instead of bolusing for 105, u need like 130 with a huge combo on the end, for about 5 hours or so...

Today I got up and my sugar was fine and after breakfast (English muffin) my sugar went to 346. ouch! needless to say I was having a hard time with it at work. I bolused and bs went to 349. Had to take a shot. That brought my BS down to where it should be. I also changed my set. Ate lunch and about 2 hours later BS was 398. OUch! ouch!! Took another shot. Started to feel better in about 45 mins. When I got home I changed my set again. Every thing is fine now. The 1st 2 sets were Quick sets and the last 1 is soulette. Has any one experienced this?
It seems like I wasn't getting the insulin. If not where did it go?

I've experienced on MDI and pump where BGs rise tremendously and don't come down. I have at least one area of my abs I avoid as it's always poor. I've also experienced sudden falls after some time. I think it's called "pooling" when you inject it and it doesn't go anywhere. One got me 911'd. Other possibilities include deteriorating insulin and occlusion (blockage). In December I had a set that stopped working on day 4 I think due to occlusion. That was my endo's term.

Been there.....what a drag! I have been told that if the insulin is not properly delivered (i.e. bent cannula or whatever), it gets forced back out the hole made by the cannula and evaporates. So you never get a tell-tale damp spot under the adhesive that warns you of a bad set.
As for the 2 quick-sets, have you called Medtronic? I recently went through the experience of having a bad box and, although it took a few phone calls, they've got me all straightened out now. It was a very good customer service experience. I suggest not using any other sets from that box until you call them.
