:fisheye: Well alright....my pump arrived THIS MORNING. That was completely unexpected. I got a call from my Medtronic rep and she said that shipping accidently sent out my pump before I sent in my forms and cheques...so I went to the mail room and voila...there was my pump waiting for me here at work. Complete surprise, and about two weeks early. So, I now am the proud owner of a Medtronic 722. I did get the real time glucose sensor with it (Not sure how much I will use it but I thought, I'll try anything at this time).

Thanks B.....

I think the medtronic rep was a bit nervous that they shipped it out without getting the cheques....LOL...I'm honest, but I can see someone not admitting to receiving the pump just to make a buck...I'm in this however to live...so I called her back right away.

Well, that didn't take long Injecto! Congrats.
I start pumping on Wednesday and can't wait. Feels like Wednesday will never come!

Injecto, did you receive the CGMS transmitter with it? Or are you still waiting on it? There's about a 14-16 week backorder right now on those with the shift to the rechargeable one underway. 9 months is not enough for something costing $1000 usd in my opinion.

This is what I received.

REAL-Time Continuous Glucose Monitoring (http://www.minimed.com/products/insulinpumps/components/cgm.html)

And apparently there is a new transmitter that will be available later in the year for only a $25 upgrade....

Thanks Dewey, and I will...

Ah, wow, they have been saying 3-4 month backorder on those for a while. Glad you got one. I'd pay the $25 asap when the rechargeable one debuts, or better yet, use it for 8 months then upgrade.

Is this a Canada/US difference? I just got my pump and was asking when they'd come out with the newer version and I was told that they still didn't know... it could be any time and it could be several months. So the $25 upgrade - what kind of difference is there in that from the original. Last I heard was $1000 for 1 transmitter that lasted a year. I would seriously consider paying the 1K if I could get a replacement for $25 rather than $1000- this sounds great!! Do you know if Minimed plans to do an upgrade program w/ their CGM's as newer/smaller ones come out like they do w/ their pumps? I just started pumping 6 days ago!

Honestly, I'm so new at this I can't tell you about the CGMS much at this time. I didn't even expect the pump today. Can't wait to get "hooked" up, despite my reservations. Now that I see it sitting here at home I just want to try it out....probably will late next week.

Congratulations Injecto. I am thrilled you got your pump and monitor and you will be up and running soon. You will see such a liberation on the pump!!!!!

If at minimum it can help me from going low as much as I do (almost every 1.5 days of more)...it will be an improvement. Ideally I'd like to stay between 5.0 and 8.0 at most....Thanks.

Quite honestly, most people go hypo at least a few times a week. And no one stays between 5 and 8. Hopefully thing will improve, but don't expect them to be perfect. Sorry to be the kill joy, I just know you will be disappointed if you go into this with unrealistic expectations.

Nah, you're not a killjoy, I know that staying in that range is impossible, but reducing the lows would be nice.

Nope, there are 2 parts to it:

1.) The wireless transmitter - this is the $900 piece that currently only lasts for 9 months or so, and then the battery dies. This reads the BG levels from the sensor and relays them to your pump.

2.) Sensors - this is the actual device sitting on your skin with a tiny probe (seems like monofilament to me) inside you, which connects to the wireless transmitter. This is what you are supposed to replace every 3 days, which some people trick it into working for 6 days or so. This is the $35 per sensor piece.

Also, you could talk to your MM rep and get them to let you "try" it. They'll hook you up with a transmitter and sensor for 3 days and let you demo it in the hopes you will buy it.
