View Full Version : Hello Everyone! From Canada
Hi Everybody.
I have already began posting, and I really actually joined cause I'm considering the pump, but I just wanted to say hello to all of you.
It's great that there's a community for people to share their diabetic stories! A few years ago I was considering putting together a diabetes community online for people in their 20's coping w/ the disease... but I got a bit sidetracked, oops!
Anyways, that's totally irrelevant. I'm almost 25 (ahhh!) and been diagnosed w/ this lovely ailment for the past almost 4 years. March 1st, 2003 to be exact. I'm currently taking Lantus and NovoRapid. This feels like a really weird AA meeting or something...
Anyways, just wanted to say hello!

Welcome! Sorry, but I am way older than your age group - today I turned 58. I was also diagnosed as a type 1 when I was 21, and here I am, 37 tears later! I would strongly suggest the pump for you. I have been on one for the past 4 years and it is great. Best of luck -

Hi AJ21, you are very welcome to the forums. There are lots of people here who found themselves in the same position as you and who have the experience to relate those back to you. There are nice people on this site, lots of info and some good fun also. Ask any question you wish, no matter how insignificant you might feel it is, it will be answered here. There is also a chat room if you are interested.
I'm on a pump now, but was on Novorapid and Lantus like you. I hope you enjoy the site. I'm here just over 6 Months and I love this site. On top of that I have learned a tremendous amount and got to know some lovely people. Hope you enjoy also.

Welcome AJ. It's more like a weird AA meeting with alcohol not only allowed but encouraged.
Pumping's definately the way to go. What are your control and a1c's like?

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!:birthday:
I believe (could be wrong) my last A1C was 8.4 or something... Which is high, i know :( But i think when I first got diganosed it was 13 or something... it's been in the 8's since, but i'm trying sooooooo hard to get it low.... but lately it's ridiculous!
However, i do admit, i have um insulin pouches building up so now I have to change my injection spots :(
Since I've changed them today, my bloods been perfect (yay/sigh)
So, i'm going to try that til i hear back from my doctor and figure out what's the best idea!
Thanks for the warm welcomes!!!
I don't know if this interests any of you, or if i should make this more global, but I'm trying to put together a letter writing campaign to get the gov'ts to acknowledge the pump and that it should be funded (supplies as well)
I'm starting on facebook and if you guys want, I can post the campaign letters we're sending when we write them up?
Thanks again for the warm welcomes :)

Rotation and avoiding your slow absorbtion spots is key. Have you tried your arms? My triceps were my fav spot. I could do it eaily one-handed with a syringe. It was harder with a pen, but doable.

Hi AJ21 and welcome ! Hope you'll find a lot of information but also a lot of friends here ! :hello:
From which region you are in Canada ?
I just started my arms yesterday... I have a soft sport (no pun intending) for injecting my stomach, I don't know why.
From the same prov at you Mario :)
Did all you guys have honeymoon periods? I never had one :(

Like you, I didn't have an honeymoon period. But my control in the first to year was very easy (HBa1c : 5.9). I think it is a kind of honeymoon.
I'm so jealous, I wish my A1C was 5.9!
