Hi everyone,

This is my first time using this forum. I recently change health insurance to Kaiser. I am currently on deltec cozmo and love it. Kaiser will accept minimed or animas pump. I really don't want to change pump at all. I don't know if minimed has IOB on all pumps or not? I know that animas has IOB feature on it. I also have to change meter as well. My current meter attach with the deltec cozmore. Is minimed any good or not? It a pain to go through another pump thing again. I wish I could gone back to United health insurance. The reason that I switch insurance was the money.

I think that if I were you I would fight them in order to stay on the pump that you have. Is your warranty up, or are they not wanting to pay for the supplies? Because of the advanced features on the Cozmo, you should have a good case if you can show them that you have the best pump for your needs right now. First thing that I would do is call the Cozmo people and see what they are willing to do for you as far as fighting your insurance to cover the pump. We are in the process of changing from Minimed to Cozmo, but have no issues with Minimed. We just want the new features that it offers along with a waterproof pump with free upgrades.

I would not switch just because your insurance says to. Also, if they are trying to say you can't order supplies from Cozmo then try Animas. Animas actually sells ALL pump company brands of supplies.

If you like the way everything is, then I would ask to file an appeal with your insurance to get coverage of what you have. Many people have done that when an insurance company will cover one company but not another.

My insurance told me they would only buy me an Animas, Disetronic, or Minimed pump. I was set to order the Animas but decided to call Deltec just in case. They set it up that day for me to be able to get their pump, I just had to order through a 3rd party vendor, which was Edgepark in my case.

You know, I would let the insurance buy a new Minimed or Animas pump. You can get Luer lock sets from either company and continue to use your Cozmo, and have the new pump as a backup. It still wouldn't help you with the Freestyle strips, though, if they're not willing to cover them.

I have a Minimed 715 and it does have IOB. If you got a Minimed, I assume you would get the most recent model which is the 522/722. They take proprietary sets but as I said, you can continue to use your Cozmo and just order Luer lock sets instead of Paradigm sets. Or go with Animas and get Luer lock sets from them, or from whatever place your insurance dictates.

As far as I know, and this is through my rep as well as my mom (who has been checking into a pump for my dad), Kaiser in CA covers the Cozmo as well as the other two.

I'd definitely check with your benefits coordinator to look into the fine print on pumps with your policy, if it's open then you shouldn't have to change.

Is your Cozmo out of warranty?

yes, switching to another pump is very annoying, as far as the process goes, but in the end it is worth it.

mm does have iob, i really like it

Hi washadog & welcome to the forums! :shakehand

I think (like the others have stated) that if the Cozmo suits all your needs, then you should fight to remain on it. Personally (this is just me), I'd fight tooth & nail to keep using my Cozmo, no matter what insurance company I went through. Also, as Jedi mentioned, you can order Cozmo supplies through Animas.

Hope things will work out in your favor. Remember, the battle may be frustrating at times, but if you are able to keep using the pump you love, then it's all worth it in the end. Please keep us posted on what happens. Perhaps some of your experiences can help others who run into similar situations.

This sounds like a sensible plan to me, unless you have a copayment for the new pump.

I am currently with deltec cozmo pump. I recently change to kaiser. They want to change my pump to minimed or animas. I want to stay with my current pump. I have no problem with the infusion set from minimed or animas. My question is will cartridge from minimed or animas work on deltec comzo pump? My pump hold 300 unit cartridge. Any suggestion or thought on that. Thank you for your support.

The cartridges are not the same. So you would be ordering new cartridges. If you truely need 300 units of insulin, then it's best to get the MM because they make a 300 unit cartridge pump. You could go with Animas, which is the closest to the Cozmo in terms of features and just refill the cartridges every 2 days, but that's a choice to you.

Personally, I'd fight it if you like the pump you have. I don't let insurance control what I use.
