Well, I'm all hooked up. Whew! It went very well at the dr.'s office this morning. I am so grateful to ALL of you for all the help and support that you have given me. Because of all of that, I really feel like I can do this pump thing. Everything went so smoothly that it amazed me. I had more trouble manuevering the streets because of our snowstorm today, than anything. Thanks again, and keep that support comin'!d

Congrats. Getting used to wearing the pump was a lot like getting used to wearing a watch for me. I always noticed it there for about a week and then I almost forgot I was wearing it at all. :)

Congrats! I was thinking about you earlier today and was wondering if you'd post after your hook up! Glad everything went so well!

Congratulations Kimmy, and welcome to the "Pumper's Club".

It took me several days to get used to having something attached to me 24/7. I was so afraid I'd rip the site out or the pump would take a bath in the toilet....LOL

As I've said before...........you're gonna do great with it and you're gonna love it!

Same here - I've been on mine for 1 week & 1 day now and I just noticed today that I was no longer noticing it/worrying about it like I did in the beginning.

Thanks everybody, I really appreciate you!
People's reaction at work has been kinda funny. My boss asked, as she grimaced when I showed it to her, very proudly I might add, if I could sleep "in it". I laughed. Another co-worker asked me if it was there forever. She grimaced too. Another lady's son has one, so she said it was cool. Funny the reactions I got, even though they've known for awhile about the pump. My husband asked if we could still have sex. I was LMAO. I said no. lol.

UGH! People that grimace drive me crazy! I would never grimace at somebody! As if we need someone reacting like we're disgusting. My neighbour does it all the time. Grrrrr.

The reason they grimace is maybe because they think your diabetes has become "severe" since you have to wear this thing all the time. In fact some people come right out and ask "Is your diabetes worse?" When I get that reaction, I tell them straight out that my diabetes is no worse. In fact, this will make it better. This is just a much better treatment for me than MDI was.

That's what I get, too - that my disease must be worsening. The grimace? I'm so anti-needles that I would certainly have at least grimaced if I'd seen one of these on someone else without knowing what it was! In fact, when I first read the words "insulin pump" in a diabetic magazine I thought -- cool -- until I saw the picture of the set. Wear that? Who were they kidding???? A grimace would have been a MILD reaction in my weinie world.

Good luck - it probably won't take long before it is just a part of you and don't even notice it most of the time (and you'll wish you'd started to pump sooner). I find that most people seem to think my "pocket pancreas" is a cell or pager - I don't know what they think the tubing is...

When a stranger pointed out that his cell phone "antenna" was broken, one guy on this forum spun a yarn about how it is actually not broken, it is a special high-tech flexible antenna that connects directly to his body to get enhanced satellite reception.
