View Full Version : Quickserter hangs

I've been using the Quickserter for a year now, and it hangs - the self-adhesive disk of the Quick-set is sticking to the sides. I tried it with the masking still in place - not a good solution.
The Quickserter barrel is made too small, and the adhesive disk too large. I called Medtronic, who sent a new one, which is less functional than the old unit. I can do it manually, and have, but prefer to use the device.
Had Medtronic made one or the other different by a diameter of 1/16 of an inch, it would work. Tolerances are much too tight for a imprecise device.
It makes many potential insertion sites untenable, and when it occurs, is extremely frustrating.
Has anyone else seen this problem?

The only time that we have had a problem is when the sides of the serter get a bit gummy from the adhesive. Clean it off and it should be fine again.

Unfortunately, both the old and the new replacement fail. Neither is gummy.

I've been pumping for 15 months and started having problems with the infusion set sticking to the sides of the inserter. It also appears to me that they're a bit larger now than they were when I first started using them.

It would be interesting to see if they have changed these. I got my quick-set serter back in 2001 and it still works today flawlessly. I wonder if they made them smaller in later models? Wanna measure?

What do you do if this happens?

You try to keep cool and untangle the mess. Sometimes it will not "descend", sometime it impales you and stretches the adhesive backup into the serter. Either is a pain, the later can cause you to trash a costly quick-set.

You know, you might be on to something - I recall this started with the last batch of quicksets.

1st. one from new box/order (lot # 2207027). Stuck on bottom of Serter. Had a mess by the time I was finished, but it's still on me! Last two box's I had, never happened. Must be a tolerance problem with the size of the adhesive. Hope they fix it soon. In the meantime, I will first trim the edge of the adhesive. Good luck all.

I've had a few lately that had the adhesive on the tab to remove the liner from the adhesive. Not all of them in the lot were that way, but the first one I found wouldn't work with the quickserter. When I figured out why it hung up, I saw that the extra material wasn't cut all of the way off and was still on the tab. I removed the excess and they have all worked fine since. I also have found that depending on the angle that the tume comes out, I can sometimes inadvertently tip the infusion set while getting ready to release the quickserter and that will cause the adhesive to grab the side also.
