It appears as though I am having trouble covering my Asian dishes... be it Chinese, Indian or Thai. I rarely eat Chinese, so no biggie there, but I love Indian and I love Thai. Turns out I had Chinese for dinner Weds night and ended up at 400 after taking enough insulin that would normally kill me, and had Thai for lunch today and have been sitting at 300 for the last 4 hours, even with correction doses. I always increase my doses for these meals, and most of the time that works, but I have been increasing even more lately because I've started going high (300+) after these meals and my correction doses aren't kicking in like they normally do - it's weird because Apidra works so fast in me.
I went for Thai a few weeks ago, had a dish I don't normally have, realized how incredibly sweet it was after tasting it, bolused a ton, and ended up in the same situation as I am in right now. I thought it was that particular dish... until today when I went back to my usual (which, in the past, Apidra has dealt with ok).
I've only been using this vial for a couple of weeks and it's been working perfectly. What it is about these annoying but yummy (carb-heavy) dishes that Apidra can't seem to handle, but only some of the time? I wonder if it has something to do with the lack of a tail... I don't think I had so much of this problem when using Novolog to cover this same meal. I wonder if I should carry Novolog around too when I go out for these kinds of meals. grr. I still do love Apidra, but why aren't my corrections working???
By the way, I do keep Apidra in my Frio, it should be fine at 2 weeks. But I get the sense that, being made by the same company that produces Lantus, they are both finnicky insulins and less stable than either Humalog and Novolog...
And I suppose there could be other factors affecting my sugars right now, like fighting a cold or something, but I feel ok and it just seriously annoys me when my sugars behave like this!
