Hello Everyone! I'm new to this forum. I'm almost 27 years old, and I might have diabetes. I am going back to the doctor on Thursday for a glucose tolerance test, but my first bloodtest came back indicative of diabetes (my fasting blood sugar was 112) and I do have alot of the symptoms of diabetes.
As of now, I just have alot of questions.
My doctor told me that alot of the meds I have been on in the past carry the possibility of causing diabetes (psych meds). I also struggled with an eating disorder for over 12 years, and I have done alot of research on eating disorders and diabetes, and I have found that there is a link between people who are diabetic before they develop an eating disorder, but I have found no info about people who have had ED's and if developing diabetes could be due to having had an eating disorder?
I stumbled upon this forum tonight, so I thought I'd sign up.
Thanks Everyone

Hey there...
It's interesting what you brought up in your post. Personally speaking, I dealt with some eating issues (among other things) before being dx'ed. I can't say that it definitely caused my Diabetes, but I can't rule it out either :dontknow:. I guess it's possible... the extra stress it put on my body probably didn't help matters.
It actually took me getting Diabetes to help break me from that mind set. You'd be amazed how this disease can put things in perspective. I realized health is so much more important than fitting into a smaller size. So, in a way, it was sort of good...
I sincerely hope you are not diagnosed with this. Honestly, it can be a truly horrible and frustrating disease. But if it does turns out to be true, know that you aren't alone in dealing with it. You did a good thing by joing this forum... you will find a lot of good info, advice, and support.
Good luck and keep us posted.

I know a fellow who was on heart medications that caused diabetes several years ago but I was not aware of any other drugs that might cause it nor was I aware of it being caused by eating disorders but I've never been too bright. I hope you don't have diabetes but I guess you'll find out soon enough.

Thanks everyone for the welcome!! I am feeling rather depressed tonight over this. Being that I have a very long history with an eating disorder, and I spent years and years focusing on food intake, etc., and years monitoring myself -- finally I recovered and broke away from that, but in reading about diabetes it's depressing me because it sounds almost like a very similar lifestyle - only it is for health reasons.. But it scares me and depresses me because I dread having to do that all again, and not only that I fear what if that leads me to relapse into the eating disorder again? I called my old dietician and left her a voicemail, and I go back to the doctor on Thursday for further testing. Anyways, thanks again for all your support!

Welcome to the boards. As far as I know 112 fasting is not Diabetic, you'll be okay and good luck in the future.
You are most welcome Miss Jessica. Firstly your reading of 112 does not signify in any way that you are diabetic. You say that you have other symptoms. I'd like to hear those to be able to determine whether you might or might not be. Certainly 112 in my opinion doesn't indicate that. I'm sorry to hear about your ED but :congrats: :congrats: on overcoming it. You must be a very strong person. Best of luck with your results
