Hi everyone, I am a Type 1 (maybe type 1.5, not really sure) who was diagnosed five years ago at age 38. Type 2 oral meds didn't work for me from day one, so I have been on insulin since I was diagnosed. I just started on the Minimed 722 in December.

I joined this forum mainly for support. I did really well managing my diabetes and weight for the first few years. The past year has been tough. I can't seem to stay motivated to eat right and exercise. My a1c's aren't great (7.7 in Dec, 6.8 in Sept)and would like to lose 15 -20 pounds. I'm hoping to get inspired to make some positive changes in my eating and exercise habits, as well as learn how to get the most from my pump.

I just got married in September to a very wonderful man who is very supportive of me and my goals. I am a dog trainer by profession and have a 7 month old (crazy!) german shepherd puppy and a 17 year-old american eskimo dog.

I'm looking forward to getting to know all of you and learning from your experiences.

Hi Bella: Let me be the first to welcome you to the forum. I'm T2, so I can't offer much in the way of advice, but i'm sure there are tons of T1's here who can and will. Look around, ask questions and you'll meet some of the nicest people in the world.

Again, Welcome,
Linda:wavey:

Welcome to the forum. You will meet many people here with a lot of good advice. I-too have been having problems since before Christmas. I just can't get motivated. Every day seems to be such a struggle. I hope that your days get better. Beth:)

Hi Bella,
Firstly welcome to the Forums. With diabetes it's only up to one person and of course that's the person who has it. Look at the benefits of doing things with a long-time goal perspective in mind.
If you aim to live a long and fulfilled life you will have to motivate yourself to start from the begining. The better you deal with your diabetes the better you will feel, and the more enjoyment you will get out of life.
You probably read in other sections here how debilitating life can become if you let things get out of hand. If you work at it you will notice the benefits flowing back to you and you will also notice how much more enjoyable life can be. The fact that you might save yourself from serious complications later in life should help you in your motivation.
It won't be easy, but say to yourself that you are going to give yourself the best possible chance to avoid any complications and set your goals high.
If you fail starting off, it's just another chance to try again, and everytime you fail, start afresh the next day and try again. The harder you try the more success you will achieve.
I hope it works out for you Bella and I wish you every success in your endeavours.
