Has anyone tried one of these?? Or seen them before?!

Diabetic's Friend HumaPen Contains Needle, Insulin (http://www.mobilemag.com/content/100/313/C11679/)

I would *almost* consider going back to Humalog just to try out this pen!

It just became available in the US on Feb 1. I'm trying to think of a reason I should have one, and I can't think of any. But it does look nice. I love the part about 16 doses being over 2 weeks worth of insulin. Nice...

Ya, if i used it for Humalog, i'd be at 16 doses in 5 days, with no extra corrections! LOL.

It would be more like 2-3 days for me.

The funny thing is that Novo Nordisk does have a pen with a memory function - the Innova Pen - which it only recently stopped distributing. I am sure they will quickly release a new and imprtoved version. :o

That innovo memorized what, one dose?

The innova pen was a brick, not a pen imo. Not something that fit very easily in the pocket.

It looks like the humapen is going to require batteries as well. While the memory feature would be cool I don't want to have to carry or worry about replacing batteries. That said, my lantus pen has an LED and has like a 5 year battery life. Wonder what the batter life will be like on the humapen. It is a sleek looking pen.

Why? I like it. The needles are really slim too. Easy to transport around too. I looove lantus! It's my favorite insulin, but a rapid is oviously needed too. My lantus is so fine tuned if I eat nothing all day I run perfect.

Good looking pen. Can see someone needing a pen and walking up and pulling it out of a shirt pocket.

You mean the BD pen needles? Yeah, I used to get the short ones and those were ok. Then the pharmacy gave me long ones. OMG. :o Those are nothing short of scary. And totally inappropriate for me.

I have nothing against Lantus. Well, except my allergy to it. But it worked really well when I wasn't allergic to it.

I hate the pen. It's super long and ridiculous looking. It's so ugly, I hate it. And the plunger at the top was hard for me to push down. I couldn't do it with one hand. And I really had to push hard to get the plunger down, causing the needle to wiggle around in me. Ow.

I much prefer the flexpens. Or syringes. Or best, my pump.

It is long and odd looking. It took me forever to be able to push down the plunger with other fingers besides my thumb. I can relate to that, but now I can get it down no problem with either thumb or rither pointer fineer with no wiggling. Despite the pen being ugly it's a lot more easily portable and discreet than syringes.

What do you currently use for bolus insulin?

Nm- Novolog- yay diabuddies. Do you use the flexpen then? Or the novopen? But I didn't know if novolog came in pen fills for the novopen. Their website says they don't. Yay confusion.

FWIW, I actually use a BD pen to inject Lantus. It works with the BD needles that I use for everything else. It works fine. Wheter it exactly correlates to the markings on other pens on not I cannot be 100% sure, but what I do know is that if I dial up 20 on there it is right for me.

I went this way as I thought the original Lantus pen was so bad. My clinic gave me one of the Autopens last time I was there. Man alive does that thing stink. It is kept for emergency duties only, and I do hope I have to blow the dust off it before use...

Thanks for the link to the official Lantus pen; it's different from the one I tried 4 odd years ago, so I'll try and give that one a bash.

Gary

Novopen 4 :)

The novopen is a lot better to use then the opticlik. The opticlik really doesn't need to be primed though. The novopen 4 must be primed everytime. Sometimes it takes me 4 units to get it primed. Luckily the opticlik only needs to be used once a day compared to the Novopen being used 0-12 times a day.

That is a sleek looking pen! They gave me some pen samples for humalog a few years ago....they were HUGE and it took an act of congress to get the plunger down....and it took so long to deliver the insulin.....I didn't like it at all. But, they were the disposable pens...I've never tried the cartridge pens. I wish I could, but they are WAY too pricey!

There is a new disposable Lantus pen coming to the US this summer....I think it's going to be called Solostar. Keep your eyes out for it.....

I've heard that the Lilly Memoir Pen is $150!!!! YIKES.

That is sweet looking! Here's another site I saw it on: Huma-pen Memoir (http://www.humalog.com/patient/humapen_memoir.jsp#)

It says it remembers up to 16 doses "including priming doses". So basically it will remember every other dose assuming it primes on the first try. Lots of room for improvement still on the pens.

IMO the perfect pen would be just like the novopen 4, that doesn't need priming, and had a second dial for .1 increments. What do you think the perfect pen should have/be?

I can't imagine a pen ever being able to do .1 increments, but who knows. Dream big.

I haven't used novolog in years, but aren't the cartidges the same size as humalog's?

It would be quite easy.

yup, both are 3ml but the novolog tips screw on to the cartridge and the humalog tips screw on to the pen itself.

I like novo nordisk, but i wish they would make some nice looking pens... and renew their idea of what looks "cool".

I'd be interested in the opticlik pen, but you need different cartridges... I dont think i'd get the prescription without a valid reason for the change. Im guessing their more expensive.
