So... I've just been put on the pill for my PCOS... apparently a cycle is supposed to be 28 days not 10-14... blah!

I was wondering if anyone gets bg issues with the Pill at all?? I'm on one called Nordette.

Thanks, gals!!

(I'm taking liberties, and assuming that the guys dont have this information first hand...)

I just finished month 2 of Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo. So far, I've needed slightly higher (~20-30%) basal and bolus rates, but I've had an easier time predicting when my insulin needs will increase. Previously, I couldn't predict at all when my BGs would jump due to hormones, and it differed from month to month, so my BG variability was awful. Now, even though I need more insulin to maintain good numbers, things are more level. I'm hoping that, after another couple of months, my BGs will be even more predictable and I'll have an easier time with basal rate adjustments.
Hope this helps- there's also been some other threads not too long ago about this same topic- try searching on "birth control pills".

My blood sugars were fine on the pill, my blood pressure was elevated because of them so I quit takin them, cause my endo long time ago was trying to get me to take blood pressure medication, I said it was the pill, I stopped and no more blood pressure problems. My new gyn. told me that he would of never given a diabetic the pill, but I'd say just watch your blood pressure too, if it starts to get elevated, drop them like a bad habit, if it don't then cool

Kit, why'd they put you on the pill for PCOS? I know a lot of women who were actually put on metformin for PCOS since it seems to work things out better than the pill does. (I know that it's a T2 med, but apparently it works wonders for PCOS.)

Other than that, I can't tell you what the pill does because of my clotting issues I can't take the pill. When I was on it in my teens, by bgs were all over the place anyway so it never really was a consideration...

To katjack: I'm a T1, on depo-provera as well. I'm on it because I can't take the pill as I said a second ago, but also because it's *so* easy. ;) I don't know why an endo would tell you to go off of it. My endo is all for it... I don't quite follow what your question is about the new gp and endo, so I can't answer that. As for getting tested for PCOS, if that's something that you want to know (or have to know if you're wanting to have children), then get tested for sure.

They had me on Metformin a few years ago, and I was suffering major hypos. I was only on a really low dose, and had cut right down to 8 units of long acting twice a day, and only 1-2 units of actrapid (Regular) with meals, but was still having bad hypos, all day, everyday. However, any less long acting (protophane / NPH) and I was majorly high. Any less actrapid, and same deal.... basically, for me, Metformin sucked in a big way.
