So, I had a b***h of a day with the D.

It was my first day at work since November today, new job, new industry. Retail, not stressful, not real hard. But still, I was nervous, after such a long break and all that.

I woke up this morning with a bg of 13.7 // 267... not happy, because I'd bolused 4 units of novorapid at 3am when I was awake with a bg of 12.4 // 223. Well, I had my lantus, had my novorapid correction and bolused, and ate my toast. Did the usual morning, stuff, and left for my first day, in a mostly good mood.

I was about 10 minutes from the shopping centre when I started feeling odd... kinda fuzzy headed, shaky, sweaty... you know the deal. So, out comes Gump, and bites my finger... oh sh*t... 1.8 // 32. Good thing I had that bag of jelly beans... pity I was shaking so much I couldn't open the **** things!! Well, a nice stranger opened them for me (he probably thought I was a psycho - who cries over being unable to open some candy?!) and I ate them... err... the whole bag, not thinking... 91g of carb... yup, bad...

So, I waited 20 mins, and tested again, and I still felt bad. Worse actually. I could barely read Gumps little face as he told me I was 1.5 // 27 now... I thought, "no bloody way", and pulled out The Imp, to test again. The Imp agreed with Gump... actually, The Imp told me I was 1.6 // 29... not much better!! By this stage, I was sitting at a table at the food court of the shopping centre where work is. I bought a 600ml bottle of sprite, and downed the lot. TBH, I dont even remember getting from the tram to the food court... but I must have done it FAIRLY safely!!

Well, the sprite kicked in, and I felt better, so went and washed up in the bathrooms [I was soooo sweaty :( ] and headed to work.

About an hour later, I was feeling ill... Nauseous and dry in the mouth and throat. Ducked out the back to test and, Gump said 19.0 // 342. I muttered "******", washed up again, grabbed The Imp and was told... 19.2 // 346. NOT HAPPY. Out came the STUPID flexpen that my stupid dr prescribed instead of the penfill (but thats another story :T) and bolused 11 units. Should have brought me down to about 3.7 // 67, but I figured I needed the extra boost cuz I was so high. Nope, still not enough. 2 hrs later, I went on break, and was 12.0 // 216. Another 4 units, and a diet coke, and back to work...

Finished at 5:20, absolutely buggered from such a rough bg day... didnt test, got home, and fell into bed...

Woke at 8pm for dinner, and was 5.7 // 103...

HELLELUJAH!!!!!

(Gump is my trusty Caresens, and The Imp is my new baby, Sensocard... I'm sure you figured out by now that I am odd, and name my meters :D)

Sorry Katie, that you had such a bad time.:( I think you were probably a little stressed about new job, even if you didn'y think you were. I do that sometimes when I know I have to get up and go do something, then I wake up high. It's really tough when you have to deal with a low and a new job. I hope things go better for you today.

What a drag! I try to always carry glucose tabs with me everywhere I go. I know that 1 tab will bring me up about 10 points. I hate the rollercoaster effect due to overtreating lows.

I wonder what happened? Did the jelly beans not digest into blood sugar until later? Usually when I'm low I eat glucose tabs or drink something as these go right into blood sugar (I think so anyway). At least you know both of your meters work consistently.

Aw man kit, your day sucked. Hope you're feeling better by now though. I hate that overcompensating that happens when you're dealing with a low, happens to all of us it sounds like. Makes me feel more human. If I felt that bad, I would have just bought every bag in the place. I would have felt better for awhile anyway:D
Hope things are more normal now!

Thanks guys... I love you all

The glucose tablets here are cruddy... each tablet is only 1.5g of carb, and they are pretty hard, and dont dissolve easily... so jelly beans are FAR easier for a hypo... and usually they even bring me up first go!!

Paul, I have no idea how many bags I sold, but I did make the biggest sale of the day :D 2 suitcases with matching toiletry bags to one lady! Yay!!

Heres hoping for a better day tomorrow (back to work then!)
