I was just diagnosed as type 1 about two months ago and I have been taking humalog and lantus. After a couple of weeks of working on my BG I started to have lots of nerve pain in my feet and legs. I have heard from many on this forum that they went through the same thing but my doctor seems to think I have some different neurological issues that aren't related to the diabetes. When I mentioned to him about what others had told me about their experiences with pain he told me that he has seen lots of type 1s and that no one else has had these issues like I have been having. Does this sound right to anyone? Because I know my body and I wasn't having major problems until I started BG managment My doctor is supposed to be one of the best diabetes doctors in my area but I am starting to get skeptical. Any info would be appreciated.

I've had this disease for just about 21 years, and I've seen a lot of different doctors, and here's my take: if your doc is an endocrinologist specializing in diabetes, take his or her advice with a grain of salt. If your doc is not an endo specializing in diabetes, toss his or her advice in the nearest dumpster immediately.

Um, it's been the other way around for me. I fired my last 4 endo's. My GP is treating my diabetes now, and has done WAY better than any of the 4 endo's did combined. My last 4 endos kept me on N & R. That right there tells you how good *they* were.

I get pains in my feet and legs sometimes, I have it because I have had 5 years of unstable blood sugars, it can be like a sharp pain or like a cramp pain.

As a newly diagnosed diabetic I would say it is most likely not related to diabetes but I am no doctor so don't take my word for it.

Hope this helps you abit.

I have heard that when someone gets their bg down often the nerves that were damaged or being damaged start to hurt as they 'come back to life'
Can't say if this is true or not, but have heard it more than once. They say it stops hurting after a while...so could be a good sign hopefully

Hello Coldfront, I also think (hope) it could be that your nerves are getting better, your on insulin for 2 months now, so maybe it will take some more time for the pain to go away. I also heard massage and hottubs are good for the nerves but Iam not sure about that, if it doesnt improve I think you should informe your docter about it, good luck.
