Have heard that bitter melon has an effect on blood glucose control although I could not find any scientific proof of this.
I did find however that the National Institute of Health (http://www.nih.gov/) has established a department devoted to research complementary and alternative medicine. Perhaps, in the future, scientific clinical trials can be conducted on products like bitter melon that will prove or disprove their efficacy in the treatment of diabetes.
I also know that products in the "alternative medicine" line have no controls over the quality or purity of products on the market today in the U.S. or in Canada and I hope that will be changing in the future.
I am quite interested in the fact that the NIH is prepared to check
supplements out for us and am prepared to give them an email with a list of what I would like checked out as it is far too hard to get any research money allocated -I've tried.<smile> Thought others may want to know about this also so they can email the NIH if they so desire.
