An insulin injection delivers medicine into your subcutaneous tissue -- the tissue between your skin and muscle. Subcutaneous tissue (also called "sub Q" tissue) is found throughout your body.

That should be retitled How To Make Shooting Up As Complicated As Possible -The New 1982 Edition. Honestly, if I had to adhere to those instructions, I might prefer DKA over insulin.

Why is it that every picture of a diabetic giving a shot is some well toned male? Sorry, but I don't know many diabetic males with a 6 pack and it's quite off that EVERY picture I have ever seen has been one.

Or........ Grab the bratty grandkid by the collar with one hand, and use the other to take the Lantus bottle from the fridge. Sit it on the table, still holding the kid, and grab a needle from the package....if it is an unopened bag, put it between your teeth and pull. Knock the kid to the floor, capture him with your feet (at this point, he might bite, so hold him face down). Stick the needle into the insulin bottle (oops, forgot to wiipe and warm it), blow the air into the bottle, turn it upside down and draw out the insulin....oops again, not enough in the bottle to cover the dosage, but jab it in your stomach anyway. At this point, it might be a good idea to let go of the kid, I forgot what I was keeping him from anyway. You also wonder if you should get a new needle and draw out the few units you were short, or go see why the kid is being so quiet. Go investigate the loud noise in the other room. Answer the telephone, clean up the mess on the floor, see who is pounding on the front door, and the kid is hungry. Fix lunch and test...wonder why I am so high this afternoon. Having days like this frequently, I just take my injections using as few steps as possible.

Penny, I sorta can relate to this, I babysit 3 days a week for a 3 yr. old, sometimes more, but man those days can really be hectic. Do you also have to deal with an unhappy husband, who "bee -yatches " all the time? I am stressed to the max at times,I don't know what to do,sometimes.

My husband has mellowed with age. Before I got real sick, and he retired, he was hard to live with sometimes. When he thought he would lose me (because I died and was revived), it changed him. But, it took a long time for my husband to learn how to cope with my Diabetes, he just did not seem to care. I found out he was really just scared and didn't know what was expected of him. He chose to make it not important, even though I needed help. I have to say though, we stuck with each other, him dealing with my illness, me dealing with him being a jerk. Now we tend to listen to each other and I don't think I could make it without him. Just hang in there, maybe it will sink in. Just don't be afraid to talk to him about how you are feeling.

Aww Penny I really don't miss those days, I can now just send the grandkids home LOL.

Penny and Andypoo, I sympathize with you about the hubbies. I have had mine for 36 years and he is lucky I have kept him that long LOL (besides I tried to sell him once but no takers and now that his warranty has expired, I'm stuck...kidding aside, I do love the guy to no end) my guy goes thru depression quite often because of heart disease, now with my issues of diabetes life in our home can get wild. When he gets into his snits, I just stand behind him and make faces at him...helps me lol.

Sorry Rob for hyjacking your thread, but these things have to be said. :D
MZizGayle I make faces at him "in front of him". LOL He snorts, and huffs and puffs, until he apologizes for his bad behavior. Really, I am the one who changed, I decided I was not willing to put up with the "jerk behavior". It just happened that he got a scare at the same time, and decided he maybe should make a few changes. I just think of all those years I wasted, and just didn't realize I had the power to change things, just by saying I wouldn't put up with it. Going on 42 years here, I told him if we make it to 50, we may have to negotiate a new contract. :D

Penny and mizgayle, y'all had me crackin up!!

Penny, I remember those days with my kids, only I wasn't taking any meds in those days, let alone injections! I'm sure I would have managed tho! I think back now and wonder how in the world I managed to do what I did!! Now I can only keep ONE kid at a time - BUT I get to return him when/if he gets on my last nerve! LOL Ahhh the difference 20 some years makes! LOL

You know, i'm not one to brag about how sexy I am, incredibly good looking, or even just how **** sexy I am, but I'm looking for some help. I was wondering if someone could give me some advice as to where to inject myself? This thread has made me realize how much difficulty I have doing it, or even the hard time i have moving my arms around to inject. I'm a bit shy to post photos, butttttt, I suppose I can put up one so you can maybe help me. Here:

The Deus guide to injecting:

1. Root around in pocket for insulin pen.
2. Get distracted by the surprising amount of fluff you can fit in one pocket.
3. Find pen.
4. Remove outer cap with left hand.
5. Remove inner cap with your teeth.
6. Do a 2u air shot
7. Dial up the insulin.
8. Randomly stab needle through t-shirt (or shorts, if sunny) to somewhere where you think there's body fat.
9. Plunge and hold for 5 seconds.
10. Replace cap with teeth.
11. Put metal cap back on.
12. Put pen in pocket.
13. Begin constructing folk monument out of fluff.

Are you trying to tell me that not all diabetic guys look like this (http://www.bretmichaels.com/Merchant2/graphics/00000001/diabeticpc.jpg)?

I wish, lol. But then again, why would we want to since then it would be nearly impossible to inject without hitting muscle.
