Well, most of the products we use border on hokey when talking about art (I really shouldn't say that, since a good artistic mind could probably make a classy tattoo out of any image). In case a creative mind fails to emerge, though, numbers blend pretty well with other images. A blood sugar level you base all your efforts on achieving, for example, to represent the diabetic aspect. I dunno..... ladders and mountains, to throw a few thoughts out there. ****, maybe you should search out an art or tattoo art message board, if they exist.

As someone who has a tattoo, let me say this: if you don't know exactly what you want, don't get one. Definitely not now and maybe not ever. You have your whole life to decide whether to get a tattoo and what it should be. There is no good reason to get one on some arbitrary date, especially before you know with certainty what you want your skin to say for the rest of your life.
Having said that, I pretty much like my tattoo. But I knew what I wanted. And I was much older than you are when I got it.

IMO, I think tattoos are disgusting on a women. :puke:
The only exception for me, would be with a "wild" woman that has a tattoo on her tail bone (or in that proximity)...
After all, I do live within 30 minutes of Daytona (Bike Week).

Hi ya Sara Welcome to the forum...
I personally would really search this out, you will be having this for the rest of your life... Also keep in mind your future profession....At my job we have to have everything covered up, bandaged ,or band-aids, etc....
Also different areas are more sensitive than others... Spine area, Sternum area, ankles.... The futher you are way from the arms the more painful it is ...is what I heard ( lol... )..
Some tattoo places let you watch them while they work.....Do your research...Make sure they wash their hands, wear gloves. In Texas they are suppose to open the package with the new needle in front of you. If they don't walk out ....
Hubby suggests you buy and wash with antibacterial foam hand soap, pat dry and put Lubriderm lotion Normal to dry~ on and stay out of the sun and water (swimming pool) until you are healed ...( after you are healed use sun-block they look so much better when you do this..)
I hope you have bought some tattoo magazines or even bought a book of the certain thing that you want
Good luck Becareful.... Oh yeah forgot look at Tricia452008 tattoo the other Tricia

Yes, but if she were swathed in a burqa and stayed obediently in her tent, you'd hardly notice. Good grief, I haven't heard tattoos on women frowned on since the 70's, and that was by old geezers.

I work part-time at a dermatology practice as well as my regular job. We do laser tattoo removals and it's amazing how many women are coming in to have them removed 5-10 years after having them. This is expensive and painful and often leaves scars. Make sure you will want to keep it before you have it done would be my advice. Perhaps try one of the temporary tattoos first and see if you enjoy it like you think you will.

As someone with 3 tatoos, I would strongly suggest you really love it. I was 18 when I got my first tatoo on the inside of my ankle. I loved it at the time, but not so much now that I am 29. A couple years later I got a small tatoo on the small of my back which I still love. The third is on my lower stomach and no one sees that one except my husband :) I still like that one too. But if I had to do them over again, I would have only gotten the one on my back....

I can't say I'm a fan of tattoos, especially on women, but that advice about making sure you know what you want, exactly what you want, before you get it done makes a lot of sense to me!
Sometimes I think some women spend more time picking out a wedding dress than the tattoo that they will be wearing for the rest of their lives!

Oh come on, that's a **** of a leap of logic. 'You don't like tattoos on women, ergo you think women should be treated as second-class citizens'. Come on, next thing you'll be telling me that all vegetarians are Nazis just because Hitler was a veggie.

Do you think tattoos are disgusting on men? Be careful how you answer this, unless it's totally honest. This could be a loaded question. And why would a woman need a tattoo on her er...taibone?

That was said tongue-in-cheek, but it wouldn't have been said at all if he had just said that he didn't like tattoos period, without any reference to women in particular.

I think he was refering to the fact that he doesn't find them attractive? Sinse being male, and probably not a homosexual, he's probably not fussed either way about guys having tatoo's, but maybe doesn't find a tatoo on a woman an attractive feature. There's no need to jump down his throat about it, everyone has an opinion and everyone has a right to express that... Personally i agree with him. (not that it would change how i feel about my partner if she got one now).
Just my two pence worth!
Back to the topic though, I think what others have said here is good advise, do lots of research and dont rush into any decisions on a design unless you're 100% happy with it.

I have the japanese symbol for strength on my mid back. I love it! Two inches or so.
I have two. ONe I got when I was 19 and its the chinese symbol for Elegance on my lower back. The other is the indian heart chakra. Well, my interpretation of it in the middle of my back between my shoulder blades. You dont see either of them unless i am wearing a singlet and then you can see the one between my blades. I am getting another soon of a saxophone with my mothers initials on the bottom. Its fairly scriptive.
My suggestion would be to find a design you like then sit on it for about six months. If you keep looking at it and still like it then consider getting it. Ive done that with all three so far and its worked quite well for me.

This was totally said in jest. Of course everybody has a right to an opinion. No references of any kind here. Please take this lightly, guys. I thought it was cute what cyborg said. It kinda sounds like he does think they're attractive.

To be honest I don't really like them on anyone, any more than I like multiple piercings. On women I just don't find them attractive (oh, I'm sorry, I have a particular taste in women, I must be such a Neaderthal) and on men, well, I just find them a bit obnoxious. But that's just me though - as if my opinion on tattoos should have even the slightest bearing on what you do with your body.

Certainly...everyone has an opinion -- just that I find it hard-pressed to find someone WITHOUT one these days!! :)
I only have one -- and a small one...and I don't believe it makes me disgusting - ha ha!!

I don't think that anyone has ever seriously regretted not getting a tattoo. The thriving tattoo removal business is evidence that plenty of people who do get them regret it. So to repeat my post, don't get a tattoo unless you know with absolute certainty that it is something that you want.
Try to imagine yourself at age 50 or 60 or 70 with the same marking. If you are absolutely sure that the tattoo you are getting reflects a core aspect of your personality that will not change over time, then fine. But if there's any hesitation at all, then there's not any reason to get a tattoo today.
My tattoo, by the way, is the Amnesty International symbol -- a burning candle surrounded by barbed wire. Back in the day when I was a professor, I was the campus sponsor of AI. Now that I'm a lawyer, it's a reminder of what drove me to the profession. So I like my tattoo, but I was well in my 30s before I got it.

[QUOTE][I don't believe it makes me disgusting - ha ha!!/QUOTE]
And that's what matters, not what other people think.
Well this old codger also wonders why I see cheap looking tattoos all over otherwise beautiful young women. It makes me think that tattoos are often chosen to please others, to get a reaction from parents or boyfriend or someone else. Or to fill that empty spot... Or ironically to make yourself unique... but since seemingly everyone has one thats kind of funny
As was stated before make sure that the design you pick will still have the same meaning to you when you are in the "wrinkle ranch"... :D

EXACTLY -- if YOU love it (YOU) -- then it does not matter what anyone else thinks....
That is...of course...if you have it blaring in everyone's face, then I think you're making yourself open to opinions!! :)
The two I have dont get seen often. They are my own testiment and I love them.. The third tattoo is a testiment to my late mother who died when I was young and I feel totaly at ease getting this one done.
IM so glad that everyone has made the distinction between hating them and people just simply not likeing tattoos.. ERach to thier own I say!

Hi smaj611.
Have you ever seen that show Miami Ink? I feel indifferent about tattoos but I love the show. Its strangely addictive.
One of their artists/main characters is a Type1. On one of the episodes another T1 came in to get the kind of tattoo you are describing. It was a ginormous syringe breaking through a brick wall and then there was a japanese character for strength if I remember correctly.
I didn't care much for it, but your post reminded me of the episode. I like the idea of just the kanji (sp?) character though...
Good luck with the tattoo! :)

I am also a huge fan of the show. I saw that episode, and as I didn't relly like the end tatoo either, I think the meaning behind it fit. It was HUGE!

Hi Sara,
I have a friend (who's in her 60s) that has a tattoo on her wrist of a caduceus & the word "Diabetes" on it (& another one which reflects an allergy, but can't remember what it is at the moment :s: ). To me, it looks beautiful. The colors are vivid & the artwork is awesome.
I have a number of tattoos myself, and truthfully, don't regret a one of them. Most of the time, I forget they're even there! lol. I have some on my ankle and a couple on one of my arms.
I know that some are saying that people ought to consider how it will look when we become "old & wrinkled," but my personal thoughts on that are, why think so far ahead, when there are No guarantees in life!? We may not make it to tomorrow, so might as well live & enjoy today!
Lastly, if a potential "love interest" is turned off by your tattoo(s), then maybe they're not the right one for you. True beauty, after all, comes from within.

Rocky, did you read my reply to your intro post? I swear you are like my long lost twin! lol
Anyway, yeah that tattoo was huge. I think that if people like something enough to decorate their body with it permanently, then they should do it. Whatever makes people happy is fine... Tattoos just aren't for me.
I went through a phase where I thought wearing a medical ID was the worst thing ever. I almost got one tattooed on my wrist. Now that I'm older I am SO glad I didn't!!!!!

Mine is one of those stretchy rubberband things like a livestrong bracelet but its black and it says diabetic. Its the only one I've ever had that doesn't look like an old lady bracelet or drive me nuts!

I got my first tat when I was in my 50s!!! It was a sign of freedom of being controlled for years. My second tat was even later. Yes, I was/am in a profession so they are concealed except in my swimsuit but you are right...it was a fuddy man who told me I could NOT get one...haha
Have a 4 leaf clover on upper thigh and a 3 leaf with butterfly landing on it on left breast.....and every day it reminds me it was MY choice and feels great...if live to be 90 I'll still be happy
