Hi,
Does anyone know if averaging out your daily BG tests, to get one BG level, is an accurate way to keep track of your overall progress?

I have noticed that I have quite a few normal numbers, but at least once or twice a day, I'll find my numbers have jumped .... sometimes its if I wait to long between meals and sometimes its 2 hrs after a meal..... but then when I take the test an hour later (3hrs after the meal) the number is normal.

I've been on Metformin just under 1 month...
My last 8 days of averages are:
129, 130, 133, 126, 162, 116, 140, 146...
I test 5 to 7 times a day depending on what I eat.

I'd appreciate any thoughts... Thanks!! :)

By those numbers it would appear that you are doing a good job of controlling your BG levels. I think it would be interesting to compare the calculated daily average over a three month period to A1c results of the same period.

It does give you an idea as to how you are doing. My meter gives an average of 7, 14, and 30 days - total overall, before meals, after meals. This does give me an idea where I am in regards to eating the correct amount of carbs, etc to keep my totals where I want them to be.

You're numbers look pretty consistent...and that's what is most important. You could conceivably have a good daily average and have spikes of high and low. I have a co-worker who has a fasting blood sugar of over 200 almost every morning, then after taking all her meds, she may drop to 60-70, so her total daily average could be good, but the highs and lows would mean her control was not.

That's why it's so important to TEST,TEST,TEST. Sounds like you're doing a good job.

I agree that it would be interesting to see how well your daily averages correlate with your A1C.

I have that same problem, I have high Fasting Blood Glucose level in the mornings but after the meds, I go down to 90's - 100's before lunch and dinner. Whats the best way to control the fasting glucose level? I don't eat anything big before bedtime, maybe 2 hours before, a small snack, yogurt or something, but not always.

I'm having the same problem with fasting and know it is frustrating! Last night, I woke up at midnight and tested. It was like 104. A few hours later, I was still awake and tested at 3am when it was 140. I was up similar hours recently and had about the same readings. For me, it's going up on its own between midnight and 5am it seems. Not eating a big dinner and rarely have a nightime snack, but when I have, it has not effected my morning fasting reading (which is always too high -- 140 - 150 the past week).
