Well hello all,

I just wanted to give everyone who helped me an update on how am getting on now because things are very different now.

Well the past almost week now I think it is has been so different for me.

To briefly update anyone unaware of what am going on about, basicaly I have had diabetes for 8 years and for 5 of them I have seriously abused my body by running my blood at HBA1C's of between 13 - 15 and when I last took a visit to the hospital I was told my eyes were showing signs of damage and it was a major wake up call for me so that is when I found this forum, my previous diet was pretty much chocolate, penny sweets, pringles, chips, burgers, pizza and so on which if you add up all that sugar and carbs I was simply a ticking time bomb as another member on the forum said.

Now for the update, I have not seen a BS of over 15 for the whole week apart from once, I am having up to 2 lows a day and am averaging around 7 - 9 on my BS, I am also not really spiking too much either, I am finding things really stable.

Now what have I changed you may be wondering, well we did talk about going on more shots a day but that really was not for me as I have a phobia of needles as it is so I focused everything on diet and working out a little bit.

Each day I am slowly reducing my insulin also and in time I will have this petty ilness under full control, it is not gonna stop me doing what I want in life, I was a national karate champion in 2002 so heck to it, am feeling so good now with everything, it is so easy to let the big D get you down but don't.

My day is like this now
Carb intake: Around 200
Exercise: Between 10-15 minutes a day
Insulin: 2 shots of Humalog Mix25 (80 units)
Average BS: No real average right now because it is getting lower still but under 9 for sure

If anyone is wondering anything then am more than happy to keep you updated more.

Last thing I would like to say is a big thank you to all who helped me in getting on the road to better blood sugars, I really appreciate it and I wanna give an extra big thanks to SueM who was an awsome help.

Right on Goobly :) That is great news. I am sure you will find your zone.

What form of karate did you study? I have a black belt in Shoa-lin Kempo, but stay try to the Jeet Kun Do philosphy and do 2 MMA matches a year (I actually only did 1 last year, as I get older recovery time is a b!@ch). Shotokan is a fellow martial artist as well.

Gobbly, well done and well done to SueM for the extra handout. You keep on working on it now and perhaps you could let us know how your future progress is going. Needless to say you can also ask any questions that you feel might be of benefit to you. Keep up the good work.

Yeah I will keep everyone updated as it did end up being quite a popular thread.

The karate I was doing was goju ryu and I got to brown belt but for the nationals I was up against blacks anyway, my sensi was holding me back by not letting me train in other martial arts and as I was interested in shaolin and wing chun kung fu it was annoying me, I was also a little interested in Jeet Kune Do but I never took any classes in that, I just read about the principles and ideas behind it.

I love reading the story about Bruce Lee, the more you learn about him then you start to see how great he really was.

I would love to get back into martial arts but with a music career I can't be going on stage with too many broken bones lol.

I think I am gonna consider getting back into it though because it really was great and it was something I was good at.

lol this is now a martial arts forum, I shall continue to keep you all updated!

Thank you Diabetes Forums!
